So I have a hub with an exclusive title. The exclusive title is this:
How Get Rid Of Cat Fleas and Ticks
For some reason I didn't realize there was not a "to" in the title until after I published it. (My brain sometimes puts in the missing word when I'm proofing and tired.)
Do you think this was created on purpose or accidentally?
I don't want to look like an idiot with the title but then, if it is the exact title they wanted for search engine purposes, should I just leave it?
Hey LCDWriter! I fixed the title- it was just a typo.
Always feel free to email me if you need an Exclusive title to be fixed (or if you see the Hub is not performing well over time despite being of high quality and you want to try out a title targeting slightly different keywords). Sorry for the inconvenience!
Hummm. That's actually a very interesting question. Personally, I would click on it in the edit section, and add a 'to.' lol You're right, you don't want to look like an idiot.
What exactly did the computer say in regards to an exclusive title? Did it say that this exact title was what people are searching for? I have a feeling you might simply be the only person talking about cat fleas and ticks, which I would be very interested in.
We had to stop allowing our 3 cats to go outside because, regardless of what we tried, they would bring in hordes of fleas with them, which would infect the entire house. Strangely though, we also have 2 dogs who spend most of their lives outside playing, going to the dog park, or going on walks, who don't bring in any fleas from the outside (and they lay on our couches and sleep with us in bed). Humm...
Yes, my dog brought in fleas and infected my indoor cats. I've had a time getting rid of them but after 4 weeks of constant fighting, I'm finding only dead fleas, thank goodness.
With exclusive titles, you can't change them or edit them. So I would have to email hubpages to get the lock on the title taken off.
But I don't want to do that if this is what it was meant to be.
Just wondering if others had experiences with strange phrasings and exclusive titles.
Even wihtout the "to" it reads odd. How to get rid of fleas and ticks on cats would be better... otherwise I might think you want to get rid of cats, fleas, and ticks....
Ha Ha Very true! You know, I didn't even notice the missing 'to' when I first read through it, so if your title is locked, I wouldn't even worry about it.
Had you not pointed it out, I wouldn't have know and I'm an English major working on my Doctorate. lol Go with it. I bet it's going to be a great article! I look forward to reading it.
Well the article is up. And it has gotten a search engine hit. (Has not been up too long). Since it's not one I can change I'd have to completely unpublish, and re-publish as a new one to change the title.
I guess it won't hurt to give it a few months to see how it does. I just feel like a complete idiot that I missed that when I chose the title from the list and I wondered if the person who puts in the exclusives meant to put a "to" in there.
I think I just assumed it was okay since it was an exclusive.
If you don't already, you might consider using keywords to create your tittles. If you string 2-3 keywords together in a sentence and use it as a title it is called a longtail... Longtails are a trick that SEO writers use to jump up in search rankings. It is my policy to choose the keywords first, around my topic before I add the text.
But this isn't a title I made. This is an Exclusive Title that Hubpages creates and you can claim.
But it is not changeable: http://hubpages.com/learningcenter/Exclusives
For ones that I create myself, I use ad words and look for commonly searched phrases.
That's my whole issue. Unless I want to unpublish, I'm stuck with this title because you are not allowed to edit Hubpages-created Exclusive Titles.
I just have to think that this was an accident on their part to not put the "to" in there.
I am sorry, I was not referring to this article title, just in general.
That's interesting.I didn't realize that there was a page where you could choose exclusive titles. Very nice!
Thanks for the link. I am on there now and just might choose a few to write about. Thank you!
VVanNess,
You just need to type a word into the box (once you choose Start A Hub). Then it will show you exclusive titles available. You can claim one and it will be held in your account as a draft while you write it. (I usually just choose it and then save it as unpublished while I research and write.)
Just watch out for the pronouns!
You can still get this fixed.
FYI - you are right - we cannot change the titles in exclusives hubs (at least not a first - once they hit the title tuner, however, you can edit them there).
The staff will change it for you - just contact the tech team or Simone, and they're happy to edit typos or words that have been left out, or, down the road, change it to something more competitive if you feel it needs a tweak.
There are hundreds of exclusives, and once in a while you'll find one with a typo or another issue - so if you see a title you like but that has a problem, it's good to go ahead and claim the title and then ask the staff to correct the error, in cases such as you're mentioning.
Thank you Marcy for this information. Maybe I'll go ahead and put in an email to them and see what they think.
They've changed several for me - and they're always happy to respond to issues such as typos, etc. in the Exclusives titles. Good luck!!

I don't understand the Exclusive Titles: I just checked a subject I am interested in. I get a title for a Hub that I have already written! I thought the idea was it was Exclusive. I'm very confused. Help.

I may be late in catching on to this but I just claimed my first "exclusive title".Can someone tell me more about it and why the title is more likely to be successful, with good written content to back it up of course! I used to write for Demand Studios and we had to claim titles. I...

For a long time it has puzzled me how one of my hubs keeps doing great, when it shouldn't. You see, I started a hub on one topic and then changed my mind in the middle of it.Now, back then I had no idea you couldn't change the URL later, so I was horrified when I was stuck with a URL that couldn't...

You all must have read that hub regarding hubs with exclusive titles. I am not able to understand the "exclusive" icon and where does it appear? I am searching it in my account page. Want to listen in from fellow hubbers?

My most recent hub was Snipped and given a new short title by staff which does not properly reflect the contents of the hub. Views have been negatively impacted and have not picked up after the change. I want to change the title back to what it was. I wrote to staff...
