High School Has Ten Commandments Everywhere

http://www.4029tv.com/news/arkansas/tho … index.html  (I apologize for the lack of text).

This sounds like an egregious violation of church and state.  There aren't other religious documents hanging on the walls; there is only one: Christianity.  What if the school had the five pillars of Islam?

What kind of message does this send to students?  From the newscast, it appears they are in favor of them also!

Is having the commandments in every classroom blurring the line between church and state?

      Flat no.
      What's wrong with people?
Why are they afraid of the Ten Commandments?

Afraid of the ten commandments - doubtful.

Afraid of people insisting that their, and only their, religious icons be posted through public buildings dedicated to teaching children?  Absolutely - those people are dangerous in a manner no terrorist could ever be.  Brenda, you and I both know that if your kids' school had the five pillars of Islam, mentioned by Sooner, posted all over the walls you would hit the ceiling.  Of Pentagrams.  Or icons and depictions of any of any religion but your own.

What is SO hard to understand that people not of the Christian faith do not appreciate your icons and rules shoved on them or their children?  They do not appreciate paying for them, maintaining them and they most definitely don't appreciate teaching their children that your icons, rules or beliefs have anything to do with reality or life in general.

Bad enough that every street corner has a billboard on private property with those silly things, but, please keep them off of the land and buildings belonging to the general public.

Sorry, wilderness, but when (in your paranoia or fear or whatever it is) you say such things as "these people are dangerous in a manner no terrorist could ever be"..........you lost any respect I may have had for your opinion in this particular discussion.

I'm not surprised.  You will steadfastly claim that your religion would govern very well if in total control, I will completely disagree, and we will never come together there.

I just look at what has happened every single time religion, any religion, has controlled government.  It has always produced conditions as bad as anything any government has produced.  Our current terrorism problem, after all, is religion based.

To compare the two, though, compare the number of deaths committed in the name of Christianity vs the number of deaths committed in the name of terrorism (regardless of what fancy name they want to give it).  You can start with the crusades, move to the inquisition and witch burnings and end with today's abortion clinic bombings.

I don't think "afraid" would be an accurate description.

The State is supposed to be neutral when it comes to religion, neither persecuting or promoting.  When a public school (part of the State) flaunts religious paraphernalia, it gives the impression that the particular school, and therefore the state, is endorsing that particular religious belief.

Obviously it's wrong, it is not government's role to become part of the system used to indoctrinate children into a faith, there are quite enough institutions which do that as it is.

Yup. The 10 commandments only belong in a school as part of an instructive, comparative teaching.

Haha.  It seems like "the State" is a magical apparatus that everyone in society competes for the use of.

The 10 Commandments does not belong on public or government property. It serves no purpose except to prove that god has insecurity issues since about half of the Commandments deals with worshiping other gods. The other half is common sense which two, killing and stealing, are the only two that are unlawful. These bible thumping states need to get with the times and cut the stupid s**t.

As a Jewish something-rather, I demand that all 613 commandments of the Torah be placed on every wall, too! I also demand that Buddha's Eight Great Truths be posted, as well! And where are my postings of the legends of the Mahabharata, may I ask?

Along those lines, and what happens when someone says those things for real:
