The ACA is going to hurt

Average family of 4 will pay an extra $7450 due to the ACA
    http://www.forbes.com/sites/theapotheca … y-of-four/

ACA will increase premium costs by 62%/99%
    http://www.forbes.com/sites/theapotheca … for-women/

An individual posted a letter provided by his insurance company explaining his new 2014 policy. His premium rose about $20/month, but his deductible went from $5000 to $10,000 for his family, and his maximum out-of-pocket expenses increased by over $6,000. More money for much, much worse coverage.

If I were to purchase new insurance this year it would cost me $90/month for a silver level plan. On the state exchange, I could get that next year for the low cost of $180/month, and it will even include prenatal/maternal and abortion services coverage. I just love being forced to pay for things that I couldn't possible use.

This program is a disaster. We were told that people could keep their doctors, but that's often a lie. We were told people could keep their plans, but that's often a lie. We were told costs would go down, but that's a lie too.

Well of course it will hurt!  You can't insure an additional 10 million people (or more), providing more care, and not pay more money.

Or did you believe the lying politicians when they said they could?  The ones that said so before they even read the plan?

      They don't care.
They don't care who it hurts or in what area.
This Bill is a political statement only.
It was engineered and geared for several reasons, all of them Leftwing non-ideology---  legitimatizing homosexual activity, abortion, etc., and criminalizing smoking, obesity, conservative speech, etc.
The scariest thing about it is the mandate that people get charged a "fee" (it's actually a criminal FINE) if they don't carry insurance from somewhere.   That's unConstitutional.    But the Supreme Court was stupid enough to wiggle it by and call it okay, thereby adding one more of Obama's criteria for calling himself the boss of us all.
Admittedly, insurance companies were already starting to phase out any questions about sexual choice while charging smokers more.   I'm not sure exactly when all that started.    But this Bill takes takes it to the max by specifically legitimatizing gay sex while fining smokers.
All the issues that are good about it (there are some good features)  could've been taken care of by simply reforming the insurance system/healthcare system  that we already had.

People freely admit that they voted for Obama for a couple reasons, homosexual "rights" being the main one.    They don't care if they sold their souls to Obama as long as he pushes their agenda.

So worth it. Equality often is.

Likely we're going to keep doing it. Good luck in 2016.

Why is some equality better than other equality? The ACA creates more inequality.

It won't matter anyway when our currency crashes, none of the social issues will matter one bit. Our loss of focus on a healthy economy is going to be the biggest mistake we ever made.

The economy was already in the toilet. This isn't going to make or break us anymore than the billions we spent on unnecessary wars.

I don't like obamacare, but I would have liked the Republicans steady grinding away at the things I hold important less.

The ACA doesn't create inequality, except that nasty little congress not having to participate thing.

Lol, news is reporting that the phone number for ACA questions is 1800F*#*YO.

Anyway, it simply doesn't matter, we haven't had politicians caring about keeping our economy alive for too long, but this will make things worse. It's already costing jobs and hours. It's going to cost jobs in the healthcare system. It's going to cost people more than they can afford in healthcare costs.

And yes, it creates more inequality. More class warfare, and age warfare. I saw a news story about a Republican who was happy for the ACA, because it was going to save him $12,000 a year. Instead of his current plan that cost $1000 a month, he will be 100% subsidized. Good for him, but someone has to pay for it, and when you force one person to pay for another, you are creating inequality.

I just wish more people would stop voting for Democrats and Republicans, and tell them that we simply don't care for them if they are going to keep killing our country.

Gay people having sex kills no one. Smoking (anything not marijuana) kills not only the smoker, but also everyone within constant close proximity (secondhand smoke is a lovely thing).

I don't see the problem here.

I have stated that this Obamacare is going to be a disaster.    America is going to be in WORSE economic conditions because of this asinine policy.    I KNEW it!

It is but economic law that ACA will raise the price of health coverage. Far from "worth it", it seems counter-productive.

Of course, ACA will be counter productive-THAT goes without saying.   It is pure deductive and inductive logic that Obamacare a/k/a ACA will be a socioeconomic disaster for American families and American societies.   Obamacare is going to lower the quality of health and medical care that Americans are going to receive.   Obamacare is going to be THE END of quality health care in America!

One of the things I haven't seen addressed on these boards is nobody is talking about the level of care everyone is going to be receiving if everyone's on health care.I work in the medical field and one of the biggest problems is that fact that more then half of our population is a hypochondriac IE Average Joe American with health insurance will bring their child who has a cold into the emergency room at the local hospital. This will just further congest an already busy department.  Average Joe will finally get seen after only 13 hours of waiting and demand for the time and his little girl that she receives some type of anti-biotic instead of being told to pickup cough medicine at Rite-Aide.

The doctor who's overworked at the hospital (shortage of Doctors) will prescribe an antibiotic to the man. Which won't really help little Suzy get over her cold faster but it will have longer term medical complications for her and run the risk of creating a drug resistant strain.

      ???

Of course the quality of care is going to go down.  We do not have the resources, just as you say, to provide the extra millions of doctors visits that people will demand.

Nor do we have the financial resources to provide those extra visits PLUS all the insurance company profits that go with them.  We will either expand the financial backing for Obamacare far, far beyond what was ever proposed or drop the level of care.  Even the huge deductibles and out of pocket limits will not help much - we're going to have to go far beyond those minor cost saving efforts.

True free healthcare would involve not making things easier for health insurance but by paying hospitals/medical facilities to be government funded and free. Amazingly expensive.

Seth, you have presented another aspect to this Obama"care" fiasco.  As I have indicated, Obama"care" is going to lead America to collapse in more ways than one. Despite the more alert and intelligent people who foresee Obama"care" as inanely insipid in its premise, there are going to be the gullible who will applaud this "medical innovation". As P.J. Barnum stated there is ONE born EVERY minute!

Obama"care" is the beginning of the end of America as we presently know it!  Obama"care"= socialist, communist.  Obama"care" is just FUBAR to the multillion degree!

    3. Zelkiiro profile image87
Zelkiiroposted 10 years agoin reply to this

Is that really a problem with the ACA, or is it more likely that that's a result of the Average Joe American being poorly educated on all things medicinal? Because, you know, if A.J. knew anything about medicine, he'd know to go to Rite Aid to get his cough medicine instead of wasting the doctor's time.

      1. Seth Winter profile image69
Seth Winterposted 10 years agoin reply to this

Zelkiiro, I'd say you almost had it right. The A.J is poorly educated in all things, not just medical. But besides A.J wanting his little girl to get an antibiotic, you're going to have many Americans going to the doctors in the search for a quick fix. This quick fix means many things.

-Some are going to use it in an attempt to get drugs-to get high. My back hurts and I won't leave until you prescribe me a hospital grade pain killer.
-Some are going to use it to genuinely get medical care their body needs, but like 60-80 percent of the patients they won't follow the medical advice. They'll come in for heart surgery but never think twice about not ordering a double bacon quarter pounder with extra cheese.

Now instead of listing off other quick fixes lets focus on that last one. What is more medical care for more people going to mean. More hospital jobs, drastic increase of need for jobs. More demand for medical supplies-organs, blood, medicines, etc.

But their's a clause here-insurances often set a limit to how much a surgery/operation will cost before the insurance won't pay a dime for it. If an insurance company says an ingrown toenail surgery will cost the hospital $100 dollars, then that's the limit they will set. Which pretty much means when inflation or prices of medical supplies goes up, either medical care is denied (possible on non-essential surgeries) or the hospital takes it in the pants.

        Switching gears...
Let's talk about our doctor shortage. Why would you want to be a doctor when it takes over 10 years of schooling and you end up paying off student loans for the next 10 years. And that's if you don't end up messing up and getting sued for mal-practice, which over--worked stressed out doctors make poor doctors.

And the list could go on...

Good news, I finally got registered on the ACA website. When I tried to login it gave me a downstream error page though. Another bit of progress happened though, the downstream error page stopped loading!

This is so sad to watch, our government can't even make a website that functions.
