I need some suggestions for relaxation. I don't drink anymore. I don't smoke. The doctor won't give me any of the good stuff (kidding, kinda). Eating an entire Pecan Pie and watching a sappy movie has crossed my mind several times, but the side effects may make me even more anxious. Thoughts, suggestions, anyone, anyone, Bueller?

      Have you tried art?

Drawing, painting or just learning about it always seem to relax me, especially after a bad day at work or a particular bout of acute pain.

Yes, that's an excellent suggestion. I'm rubbish at most visual arts, but going to a museum always calms me. Too bad I can't just live in one for a week.

Dog. Check. She keeps me busy enough you think I'd be too tired to be nervous.

At least once a week really get your walk on.  I find it helps clear out the lungs and the mind. preferably somewhere with trees and water etc.

I don't know if your old enough to have heard of the pop group Adam & the Ants....Anyway he did a song & in it he sang: "you don't drink, don't smoke, what do you do"?....So what do "you" do?, now that you don't drink & don't smoke....Iv'e got to tell yer if you packed in drinking & smoking, you really have impressed me as you must have some strong will power....So if you wanna relax meditate, also join a gym & get fit....What ever you like to watch on the T.V, go & do instead.

Well that depends what music you listen too, as most of todays music is crap!lol....Listen to some of Joe Rogans Podcasts about life on utube, relaxing & inspiring all at the same time....Also meditation must be the most under rated thing out there, as stress in manifested by the mind, so meditate & give your mind a break from thinking. :-)

Joe Rogan, like MMA Joe Rogan? I haven't listened to any of those but I'll have to check them out. I've always liked him. Funny to think of him and mediation in the same thought, haha.

Yes mate there's only one Joe Rogan, & if you already like him your'l love his podcasts....He's actually a stand up comic originally, & his "evolution of dumb people" vid will make you laugh.....The guests he has on his shows are amazing people, also watch his vids on the sensory deprivation tank.....He's brutally honest & speaks from his heart, swears a lot but that's because he's passionate about what he talks about.....The most amazing inspiring stuff iv'e ever heard, that's if you like thinking about life & the universe etc.....Loads better than anything you can watch on the T.V. :-)

By the way, he's the guy that convinced me to try meditating.

That's fantastic! I'll look some of those up today. Thanks for the tip. The guy has a great voice, too. That always helps persuasion, don't you think?

He does have a great easy to listen to voice, & you can hear the passion in his voice by the way he puts things....To say he could be doing anything in the world he wants to do, & yet spends most of his time trying to inspire people through his Podcasts etc...He's easily the coolest guy in the world without a doubt, & he's got something inside him that just wants to give.

Learn how to meditate and find joy and peace in your meditation.  Focus on love.  Feel appreciation for all you have going for you. Feel your warmth and your safety in the here and now. Lie in the sun. Go for a walk in nature.
...and get enough sleep and vitamins.

Read hubs on relaxation and meditation. Put those topics in search. Reading can relax you.  Sit quietly and do deep breathing. Think good thoughts. Spend time with supportive people. Walk and do other exercises. Get enough sleep. Eat healthy. Bananas can relax you Good luck.

Bananas? Really? I've never heard that before. I'll definitely give those a try. Quick question. Does it count if it's a banana split?

That might put too much sugar in your body. You could try eating part of a split. Sounds like fun to me.

Congratulations on your accomplishments. Especially smoking I am envious of that deed achieved. As far as relaxation may I recommend earnestly 'Mindfulness.' You can discover much of it at UCSD website for it. Just enter into your browser for with them together and you will discover powerful information with self-help guides too. Plus, a trip to YouTube offers many doors of opportunity.

I am a beginning practioner and have great results with curtailing my smoking. The key is for me is not only understanding the underlying anxiety and those issues giving cause to smoke, which  is essentially almost the same as not being able to relax, but the effect. They have ton's of data sharing that mindfulness has as if not better efficacy as with coginitive-behavior therapy (CBT). There is a one  hour plus YouTube vid sharing the specifics there on that specifically as a lecture format.

Hope that and any of the additional helps offered give you many options to achieve success. Your history shares more than likely you will discover the keys just like an old Pac-Man game sooner than  not.
