God and Creation

    Why did God create anything?

It seems a bit strange doesn't it, to say God is completely self-contained, perfect, all knowing, all powerful, existing eternally, no beginning, no end, but for some inexplicable reason created the universe (or other universes).

For God to create anything is bizarre.  It would suggest God has some sort of external want that needs to be fulfilled, but that's completely inconsistent with classical theism.

Then it gets even stranger when Christian theology comes into the mix, that God is actually moved by human beings praying to him, following his commands, all the while knowing the entire of history and what would happen before he created anyone!  How can a perfect being who is completely fulfilled by his own nature be happy that his creation is doing what he knew they would do?

I think it's time to put away the anthropomorphic God, and anyone who defends belief in God shouldn't base it so much off of humanity.

God is consciousness. Actually I have heard that the consciousness of "mother" nature imagined everything. But He had to have imagined the force of nature, Himself…

Why? out of boredom of course! How entertaining is it to watch Nature. How entertaining is it to watch each couple raise a child and see, (He is omnipresent) what each child does with his or her life on this amazing earth.

(Yes, we imagine God to be a thinking individual. How else can we think of God, as we are so identified with our individuality.)

It seems that the brain is an amazing gift that each soul has been given. Within boundaries of morals and ethics we have free will to develop the talents and skills we want to develop based on the joy within us. Perhaps He wanted to share His Joy. But we are not stuck here in material consciousness. There is a way to go back to God. That way is what Jesus was teaching… "heaven is within."
And it is all a mystery and that's good.

Kathryn, consciousness is defined as the condition of being conscious : the normal state of being awake and able to understand what is happening around you, a person's mind and thoughts.

If a person is in a coma, they are not conscious. Essentially, you are saying that if a Christian is in a coma, they are not conscious, hence have no God, yet an atheist who is conscious has God. Do you not see how ridiculous your statement?

Yet, people who believe in souls aren't using that amazing gift.

No, Kathryn has invented a new definition, a thing, she calls Consciousness.  It sounds to me something like the cloud - an undefined "something", but definitely connected to the minds or souls of humans just as the cloud is connected to your computer.

The only difference is that we know exactly what the cloud is, while consciousness is a vague, undefined thing we know nothing about.

uh... my cloud is often connected to my computer!

consciousness is awareness which is connected to the brain. In fact, the Creator made the brain for Individual Consciousness (soul) to operate/funtion on the physical plane.
Furthermore, I don't believe the brain is a product of evolution. It is more advanced than we are.
Our parents didn't teach us how to use it much cuz they weren't taught and there you have it, down through the ages.
            - unless we descended from a race of super-beings, but have been dumbing down ever since.

But Kathryn, you have made it evidently clear you have no clue what evolution is about, so how you can you even comment on it?

I believe in evolution as guided by Mother Nature, a very savvy involved force. Mother nature is evidence of spirit. hmmm I have some updating to do… thanks for reminding me.

Believe as you wish; 100% of all evidence collected to date is that evolution produced the brain.  Doesn't mean you have to believe it, though - if you can convince yourself otherwise in the face of that evidence, go for it.

Similar for a Creator or a soul.  Zero percent of evidence indicates that either exists, but you may again believe as you wish.  People very often make up their own, personal, reasons to believe something if it makes them feel good to do so.

But parents DID teach us at least a little on the use of our brain, and that is increasing as we learn more.  They taught us things they had learned, knowledge to embed in our brain.  They now teach us to think, although it's coming slow and late ("they" being schools and teachers).

well, my father taught me 0 about playing piano although he is a piano playing whiz... set a metronome in front of me and took off. sad (Tennis too. never once did he bring me to the courts.)
hmpph. no wonder I went wild in high school out of sheer boredom!  (along with the rest of them. teenage wasteland for sure, back then.)
                - And even less about finances, money, or true survival!
Hint to fathers: help your girls toward this end, just in case they would prefer to be independent.
Maybe fathers are educating their daughters more in this day and age.
                Well good!

No need to teach girls that stuff.  They are to remain barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen, forever subservient to their husbands.  So sayeth the bible (or at least the priests "interpreting" it).

raised to be a good catholic. he originally wanted to be a priest but knew he wanted a family. he has become a full-on atheist after years of searching for truth. He exposed me to amazing sources of truth and then left them all. sad

In the beginning there was nothing. Nothing, by definition, has no limits. It has no anything. So there was nothing to stop something from happening. So something happened. And that, children, is how the universe began; or as the Kabbalists Say:

The three veils of negative existence (which symbolise the beginning of creation) are:

    Ayin: No thing
Ayin Soph: No limits; limitlessness; aka the eternal
Ayin Soph Aur: Limitless light; eternity unified with itself; God

...nothing to to stop something from happening? ...this does not make sense to me. But, thanks for this explanation!
I believe the cloud of God with all his awareness was bored and all alone…. and just started creating things because he could. It all started with a spark of his own essence… light.
