Is it possible to completely forget a song that you loved with all your heart for years? When I accidentally came across "get Together" by YOUNGBLOODS on Youtube, my heart skipped several beats. I hated myself for not having remembered it for some 40 years.
This version, I think, was at an anti-nuke rally organized by Jesse Colin Young and had Steven Stills and Graham Parson singing too. The spirit of the song and the affinity very discernible on the stage made my eyes well up and spill over. To atone the unforgivable lapse, I listened to the song some 30 times back to back and am still doing it 10 times a day.
I even sent off an email to Jesse Colin Young and am patiently waiting for an answer.
Has this happened to you? Have you forgotten a dear song for years and had a chance to hear it perchance and were drowned in nostalgia?
All the time. I think its pretty cool you emailed JCY!
(I love so many of the songs by that group of musicians and SO many others as well!
Sea of Joy by Steve Winwood, I'll never get tired of.
I predict the farther away we get from that truly amazing era the more precious so many songs will become for many good reasons.)
"Come on people now
smile on your brother…" and remind us of some more great songs with messages for all times!
Thanks, Thirdmilleniun, for reminding us about that great song and sharing your find on Youtube!
PS Maybe we need an anti-war movement to perk up again, considering what we are really fighting for. Oil, mineral resources … conquest? We need to protect and preserve or own and other democratic-based nations… not fight for purposes of conquest / wealth (especially not in the name of some false noble cause! ) Seriously!
Love is but a song we sing
Fears' the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
Or make the angels cry
Though the dove is on the wing
And you may not know why
Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
And try to love one another right now
Some may come and some may go
He will surely pass
When the one that left us here
Returns for us at last
We are but a moment's sunlight
Fading in the grass
Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsty.com/jesse-colin-you … yrics.html ]
Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
If you hear the song I sing
You will understand, listen
You hold the key to love and fear
All in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both
It's there at your command
Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
I said, come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Right now, right now

Following the shadows of the skies
Or are they only figments of my eyes?
And I'm feeling close to where the race is run
Waiting in our boats to set sail, sea of joy
Once the door swings open into space
And I'm already waiting in disguise
Or is it just a thorn between my eyes?
Waiting in our boats to set sail, sea of joy
Having trouble coming through
Through this concrete, blocks my view
And it's all because of you
Or is it just a thorn between my eyes?
Waiting in our boats to set sail, sea of joy

Now that he has no sense of destination
Now he's running for the love of speed
When the child goes bad it's no cause for celebration
Like Jimmy Dean he don't talk back to me
Failures as fathers, Mothers to chaos
No baby, no baby, no baby no
CHORUS
Hallo humans can you feel me thinking
I assume you're seeing everything I'm thinking
Hallo humans nothing starts tomorrow
I'm the baby now

Hi Kathryn
You are wonderful. Steve Winwood has always been a favorite. I think the best thing about the 60s and the 70s is that EVERYBODY sang well and each of the 1000s of songs was good in some way. Chirpy Chirpy Cheep cheep was as refreshing as Alone Again Naturally was profound. Songs like Whiter Shade of Pale never cease to amaze one for their music as well as words. I have a Question and Answer book in Amazon Kindle on music of the era.
Thank you
- love Procol Harum.
"Procol Harum: British rock band formed in 1967. They contributed to the development of progressive rock, and by extension, symphonic rock. Their best-known recording is their 1967 single "A Whiter Shade of Pale". Although noted for its baroque and classical influence, Procol Harum's music also embraces the blues, R&B and soul." Robin Trower is still alive and well and giving concerts which fans love! I saw him in Ventura a few years ago and in Long Beach too.
Found the LP Twice Removed From Yesterday, which I had never heard, at the Good Will. Love finding oldies but goodies in thrift stores!
I bet I am much younger than you, but I listen to music from various times. the latest songs to those very old ones before I was born. I never forget any of my favorites, evergreen tree, yesterday once more, sealed with a kiss, ... Maybe I still need to put in time, but I really appreciate you made that email.
Thanks. Yeah, I feel good about the mail too. A reply from Jesse will be greatly treasured, let's see
i got a million records. I have records that people drop off without even telling me. My record collection has gotten bigger without even trying. I have all genres and eras. I blast out my neighborhood every so often with Hendrix or Cream. They put up with it politely. My son in-law comes over to play my 1950's drum set. Occasionally I break out my Fender. They are used to all the racket. Here is my lyrics contribution: Sometimes I can't this tune out of my head even though it is from some by-gone era...
"Don't Let It Bring You Down"
Old man lying
by the side of the road
With the lorries rolling by,
Blue moon sinking
from the weight of the load
And the buildings scrape the sky,
Cold wind ripping
down the alley at dawn
And the morning paper flies,
Dead man lying
by the side of the road
With the daylight in his eyes.
Don't let it bring you down
It's only castles burning,
Find someone who's turning
And you will come around.
Blind man running
through the light
of the night
With an answer in his hand,
Come on down
to the river of sight
And you can really understand,
Red lights flashing
through the window
in the rain,
Can you hear the sirens moan?
White cane lying
in a gutter in the lane,
If you're walking home alone.
Don't let it bring you down
It's only castles burning,
Just find someone who's turning
And you will come around.
Don't let it bring you down
It's only castles burning,
Just find someone who's turning
And you will come around.
