What Question Does Your Hub Answer?

A problem I see with many hubs is that they don't answer a question. So my top tips:

-Your title is THE most important part of your content for SEO.
-Choose a topic that's low competition (not a lot of other articles ranking in Google for the exact same thing.)
-Answer a question. Or even put a question in your title.

    Bad title: "Celebrating my Birthday"
Better title: "How I Had a Birthday Party for under $50"
Title based on Google suggest: "My Best Birthday Breakfast for under $50"

I personally don't use the Keyword tool. I DO use Google suggest AND check the competition before I write on a topic.

As Cardisa says: People Google questions, not titles!

I am (sometimes) following the advice that you give about using a question in the title, but I probably need to do more with checking google for the right keywords.

Can you suggest a good title for a hub I plan to write? It's about overcoming opiate dependency. What would you suggest? Thanks so much. I already have about 100 photos to share with the hub.

        google suggest

        I typed in overcome opiate

        some of the suggestions

        How to overcome opiate addiction
        overcome opiate addiction at home
        overcome opiate withdrawal symptoms

Just type a couple of words into the google search bar at the top of your browser and suggestions drop down (the google suggest tool wry was talking about).

Thanks, Christin. I did the Google suggest thing as well. None of the titles or suggestions that came up from there really grabbed me. Your suggestions are really helpful. Thank you.
I've noticed that WryLilt has a natural gift for coming up with a catchy title that makes the reader want to click on that article and read more. I agree with her that the title is one of the most important things we have to gain notice from potential readers.

Very true Brie and people tend to be drawn to them also I've noticed.

Yep, my most prolific hubs have numbers in the titles.

That is good information, Brie. It seems like people want numbers. I noticed that when I did some ghostwriting on a pay per article site.

My hub on creating click worthy titles really emphasised on numbers! People these days love numbers in titles, so the "listicle" was born. Mixing in profitable keywords with numbers is a great for both social media and Google.

          Hello Brie,
I like that suggestion and it does have a certain appeal. I, too, have noticed that a lot of articles use a numerical value in an attempt to draw in the reader. I guess we need a finite reason to be assured that there will be a limit to our dissertation. Thanks so much for your helpful recommendation. Nice one.

Well, you can get around the finite part.  I just did a hub called 50 Things to do with Bamboo.  Later, I came up with more than 50..so I changed the Title to 50+ Things to do with Bamboo.

Still works and it's doing quite well.

The problem with changing a title is you can't change the permalink.

Brie Hoffmanposted 9 years agoin reply to this

I know but the number doesn't matter in the permalink.  For example if you google:  Things to do with Bamboo or what can I do with bamboo my article will come up.  I could change the number all day long and it will still come up.

Great advice! Titles are my main weakness. I can write long stuff but titles, slogans, that sort of stuff always stymies me.

Brilliant advice, (as usual) I got a hint about this accidentally, with a random hub  posting that did answer a question. It has been a top earner for me. ( Which one??  Not telling right now.)
People need to think about things they have personally searched for on Google, and what words they used.

Wtylilt: What is Google suggest? Is it a tool or what? Good ideas.

    1. lobobrandon profile image87
lobobrandonposted 9 years agoin reply to this

It's not a tool Lisa, as you begin typing something in Google, it gives you more options (continuations) based on what you're typing. Those suggestions are from data google collects based on what people across the globe (or your location) are actually searching for.

Just as Susannah has stated, don't bother too much with the keyword tool. But, once you get a suggestion - there could be other options that you would want to look at, I'm talking about the way you frame your question a.k.a the order of the words.

I use the free semrush tool (limited searches per day) to get rough estimates of the search volumes and it shows you other similar searches. The related keywords feature is something I love.

I use SEM Rush too as well as Long Tail Pro. I pay however for Long Tail Pro (17 a month) and have found it to be VERY much worth it!

My hubs usually deal with pop culture and LGBT issues (really issues about gay men).

I have really been trying to do this in my hubs.  I hope it pays in the long run.  It definitely makes it easier to generate content when I approach it like this.
