What's best, unpublish or leave it while editing?

   Some of my transferred lenses look like crap as a hub, mainly because they have poetry in them, which won't display as neat as I want them to. It will take some time to repair those hubs and I think it would be best to unpublish those hubs and publish them again when fixed.
   
   I think it wouldn't do me any good as a hubber (and I even feel a little ashamed) if visitors should see this mess and each one of those hubs are not fixed in a few hours.
   
   What's your opinion on this?

      I have several Hubs that are quite long and take more than one session to edit. What I've done is left them published, but I put a note in at the point where I have stopped editing to letting them know. here's what I've written:
      
      "Please excuse the confusing material that follows. I am in the middle of editing this Hub page that was just transferred from Squidoo. It is a long one and can't be done all at once."

         I'd suggest modifying that message.  The bulk of your readers won't be from either HubPages or Squidoo and will wonder what on earth you are talking about!    Why not something more neutral such as "This article is under construction, please excuse any confusion".

      There is one more thing to think about if you decide to unpublish some of your stuff. Some of your ex-lenses may not have been successful in search engines' rankings, but they could be still important for rankings for some of your other lenses, if you interlinked them. Before you unpublish anything, be sure none of your other published articles (on HubPages or wherever) links to this soonto-be unpublished hub and this hub don't link to anything what may be important for you (other hub, post on your blog, ...)
      
      When in doubt - slowly and steadily is probably the best way to go.

   Hi Titia I also came over from squidoo and my ex-lenses look awful! I'm in publishing them so I can work through them one by one for the same reasons you said it's definitely worth doing - though a few I have just had to bin (I think I got lazy on squidoo!) I hope this helps

   My recommendation is to edit featured Hubs while leaving them published.  If you do unpublish while editing, I'd only leave it unpublished for a very short time frame.  The longer it's unpublished, the more risk there is to losing the current rankings.  Hope that helps.

   If you unpublish them for more than a short time, they will lose all their ranking on Google and when you republish, they'll have to start from the bottom again.   
   
   That's really the only concern.  So if you've got some lenses that didn't get much traffic anyway, you're not going to cause any harm by unpublishing them if you feel happier doing it that way.

      Thanks for your thoughts about my question. I've decided to leave them published and will edit those hubs first. I'm very particular on how my poems are displayed, so I will put most of them in jpg. There's enough text in the hubs to compensate the loss of wordcount.

         They will make nice pins on Pinterest!  I've pinned some of mine that I put inside an image and they are shared frequently on Pinterest, which is good for traffic.

               You don't need to be on Pinterest for your images to get pinned on it.  Readers who like your work and have Pinterest accounts may share your hubs that way.  I didn't even have a Pinterest account (which I have ignored for a long time anyway) until my money rose lens had been pinned by other people on Pinterest close to 100,000 times. 
               
               Other people will appreciate the nice formatting on your poems, too, and by making them images people can pin them on Pinterest.  Don't worry about your image being on a bunch of peoples' pin boards taking away from the originals' views because the more who do it, the more traffic they'll send your way.
