Backlinks and Hubscore

   Do-follow and No-follow backlinks affect our page ranking in google. Is there any relation to our hubscore here on Hubpages? I've been told that there is probably no affect on our hubscore in relation to our backlinks. What do you think? Also has anyone monitored one of their pages and frequently checked their backlinks to see if there is an improvement in their hubscore?

      If you will check the terms & conditions of hubpages then you will find that if we got over 85 hubber score then all our hubs get do follow links. So, there is a strong relation between hubber score and your links.

         The OP was asking about backlinks.   You're talking about outgoing links.  Big difference.

      i don't use backlinks , j  ust share at twitter and facebook. Hubscore dropped ifviews are low for me

   HubScore is an internal measure by HubPages which has NO effect on the success or failure of your Hubs.  It includes various criteria.  Links are not one of them.

         Traffic used to be a major component of HubScore.   Not any longer.   The biggest components of HubScore are the score awarded by QAP and the number of ticks you've achieved in the "Stellar Hubs" guidelines at the top right hand corner of your Hub.
         
         I repeat, though, that if you're here to earn an income from your Hubs, worrying about your HubScore and HubberScore are probably the most unproductive things you can do.

            Marisa, I've seen you post this before, but nowhere on the site is this collaborated.  Is there someplace official that this has been stated? According to the Learning Center regarding Hub Score, traffic plays a factor, along with various other factors,  quality of traffic included.  We may have hubs that score higher without high volume traffic because of the sources of the traffic.  It's doubtful that backlinks play a big part in hubscore, but having quality links pointing to a hub is always good.

               As you can see from Paul's post, traffic is no longer a significant part of HubScore.
               
               So while I agree backlinks have a lot of value, they are not going to help HubScore much if at all.  They're certainly not directly taken into account in the criteria.

                  I'm sure I'm not the only one that has never seen that thread or post.  It's buried in a thread that I had no interest in reading. I would guess that a very small percentage of hubbers have that information.  I know Paul had mentioned a while back about factors changing for determining scores, but I assumed that information like that would be updated in the Learning Center.  It still says in the LC that traffic plays a part.  I've also not seen the reference to how many boxes are ticked as a factor.
                  
                  Scores aren't a big deal to me, although I do watch those at the tip top.  But I know that a lot of hubbers follow their scores and want to know what to do to help their scores increase.  I think it would be helpful to make sure the LC entry about scores/stats is updated with the most current information. 
                  
                  It's interesting that no SEO data is used in calculating scores.

                     I know what you mean.  It's like HP would rather see all the boxes checked on a Hub rather than have high traffic on a Hub.  Makes no sense to me and Google could care less about whether or not you have a map capsule or a video!

                        Yeah, I get and appreciate the desire for high quality Hubs, but I'm not sure automating such a thing is really in everyone's best interest right now.

                     I agree (I didn't give the link because WF had already done so).  Personally I think the Learning Centre has turned into a monster - it's just too big, and I think even HubPages is having trouble ensuring that everything in it is kept up to date!

   No follow Back Link should have no impact on search engines. Creating good do follow links will help your ranking on SERPs which is crucial for traffic.
   
   Creating good hubs is the key however do not miss linking opportunities.

   I found a post in a related thread at the bottom which gives advice and specific pointers to help make better hubs which will increase hubscore. 
   Paul does include using links to reputable sources.
   He also has a few more posts in that thread.  That's the info that needs to be updated in the LC.

   Another point I wanted to add to this is if we are receiving a score which usually means we've been graded on our page content and we do have a chance to edit and improve, it should be to some degree a clear answer on what gets a page a 90 or above. If these scores are only given to pages that have the most creative content than that is a quick answer. I don't think that is the case. So what is the point of a visible score if we aren't sure what we can improve on.

      Creative content has nothing to do with it, and never can have - since it's mainly done by automated filters, and only humans can judge creativity. 
      
      If you browse around the forums you'll find people have been complaining about scores almost since the site began.  The site's co-founder is a big fan of them, though, so I doubt they will ever disappear.

   I found this post. She says that many of them at Hubpages HQ feel the same way we do about Hubscores being unnecessary and may be removed entirely in the future, but due to resources being placed elsewhere at the moment this will not happen very soon.

      Yes, I remember that thread.   Unfortunately I'm not holding my breath.  At some point after that post, Paul Edmondson posted on a forum about how great he thought Scores were.   Paul is the boss - one of the owners and co-founders of HubPages.  We haven't heard a negative word from staff about scores since!
