More Pages - Same Traffic - Here is an Idea

HubPages added a lot of Squidoo pages - yet the Quantcast traffic indicates it has returned to the average pattern of all this year.  Net gain - exactly nothing.  Let's hope they didn't part with any money.

    So what if?

What if HubPages stop talking about QAP and start really doing it.

There is endless rubbish on this site from years ago that should no longer be here.

Get the bright one in the office to delete all the non-performing pages - less than 5 visits a month say.  People can take them elsewhere.  That should take an hour to do.

Next up - police that Amazon / eBay limit and link-out limit properly.  ENFORCE IT.  No need for pretty please and smiles on top - just set the rule and delete the lot.

That would be another hours worth of coding.

And - non-English with too many howlers - for goodness sake - get rid!!!

The traffic 'quota' that Janderson refers to would probably mean the overall traffic remains the same BUT maybe Google would see some genuine attempt to clean up the stable.

Agreed.   I can't understand why HubPages is putting money into editors - if they'd put the same number of people on to clearing out the obvious trash, they'd get rid of an enormous amount in a short time.

Even simple things - I noticed someone posting about finding Hubs on m@sturbation, for instance. If we can find them with a simple search, why can't HP put a staff member on to doing those searches and bulk deleting all the offending Hubs they find?

The Amazon/eBay limit IS policed, but from everything Paul E says, it's obvious that one product per 50 words is still too generous.  So lift the limit - make it one product per 150 words, say.

How about two ads per article!

That's a good example of what I was mentioning on another thread - on the internet, when someone mentions a problem, it gets exaggerated.

There is nothing wrong with Amazon or eBay capsules per se.  I have hundreds of eBay ads on my blogs which have never had a tremor from Panda (touching wood as I say that!).  The key is that they have to be completely and utterly relevant to the text and helpful to the reader.    I think 50 words per product is too low, because what can you really say about something in 50 words?   But 2 capsules per article is unnecessarily strict.

Mark Ewbie's concern for quality hubpages is okay. But, I can't agree with his suggestion of deleting the articles below 5 views a month. You can not measure quality by views. Traffic gets flown by glitters and superfluous makeups. You can't judge things by the traffic. You should see the quality. Quality articles should be retained whether they receive traffic or not.
All other suggestions are okay. And I support the suggestion of allowing only 2, 3 ads per article to maintain the importance of the content and to prevent distractions.
