More than one HubPages accounts

Is it wise to have more than one HubPages account?

The reason I ask is that I already have two. However, I didn't "create" two accounts myself. What happened is the following: Years ago I created an account here on HubPages, but I never wrote a single word or use the account. THEN recently I got this account with the suffix "lm".
This "lm" account could obviously be improved a lot. The "lm" account is some "old stuff" transferred from Squidoo.

Therefore again: Is it wise to have more than one HubPages account?
and if yes. How should I use them?

A lot of people here have two or more accounts. Many people  prefer to reserve one for their niche subject-- writing only related articles in their particular area of expertise, and use another  account for misc. topics.

Be sure to never ever make a comment to your hubs if you are not logged in to that account. For instance, if you have logged in to account A and you comment on a hub in account B, both accounts will be closed indefinately. The good thing is that your earnings will be sent to you even if you have not reached the required threshold. The bad news is that you will never again earn on HP.

Well, I had no intention whatsoever of "cross-commenting", but thank you for the warning.

Is LM for lensmaster? I expect that changing author's usernames created some confusion and paranoia for some.

I don't know what lm means.
It was HP who put "lm" as a suffix to my name, without I did anything. So ( LOL ) maybe is means LazyMaster

In response to your two accounts here, I would leave both here for now and watch and compare your traffic and scores to see which one does better. The transferred lenses from Squidoo probably have some traction at this point that would be worthy of keeping, if as you said, you really didn't work on the Hub Pages account that much.

For improvement, and I'm sure you already know this, I just read your hub about romantic ways to keep relationships alive. It was charming, but I would definitely take out some of the products as there may be too many for the volume of words. I believe the ratio is one product for every fifty words.

I hope this helps you make a decision. And Welcome to HubPages with your newly transferred work.
      All the best to you,
      Peg

If you already had an account and wanted squiddo lenses transferred, there was a second account create.  So one account is for squiddo, and the other is for hubs.

Actually I didn't "want" the Squidoo account to be tranfered. I didn't do anything, so the transfer happened without any action from my side.
Now that the Squidoo/Hubages transfer has been done, and I came back to HP, then I realize that I years ago made a mistake by "not being an active HP member".
So I intend to be active here at HP. But should I then continue with this "auto set up lm" account.
OR should I have the "lenses/hubs" transferred to my original but dormant account?
OR should I continue with two accounts?

PS: I was never really very active at Squidoo

HP does not have the option of transferring hubs from one account to another, unless you do that manually. But hey, welcome back to HubPages, askformore.

Well, I haven't yet decided whether I will continue having 1 or 2 HP-accounts. But as I understand you, then I could manually transfer my hubs to my "very old, but empty" account without the suffix "lm"

If neither of the accounts are niche, it probably will not make a difference if you merge them.  And that way you will reach payout faster, since HP does not combine payments for separate accounts.  You'd have to reach the $50 threshold on each.

Thank you for the tip! Well, I do have my own adsense account, so for AdSense it makes no difference, but thanks anyway.

Are you signed up for the HP earnings program?  It pays better than Adsense alone.

I have (so far) signed up for the HP-payment program only for Amazon and eBay. Whereas I have chosen to have Adsense paid directly to my private AdSenseAccount.
The above might be foolish. ???
As you can see in my "opening" post in this thread I have 2 HubPages accounts: 1) This one, which can be improved in many ways. 2) The very old, totally empty, on which I have never written a single word.
Maybe I should write some more in both. Set the two accounts up with different "payment system", and then compare the results.

Okay, maybe you are already signed up for it.  If you are, you will earn directly from HP and get a little from Adsense too.  When you are signed up for everything, the "status" columns should all say "active" in your account page like this

If HP created the account, the suffix was added because another account under the same name, without the suffix, already existed. They did this with the squidoo content transfer.  Some lensmasters were able to keep the same name as they used on squidoo, others got a variation, while others got an entirely different name on HP than they had on Squidoo.

Thank you for the lm explanation.
Yes, there is "another" askformore without the "lm suffix". That "askformore account" is mine too, I made it 4+ years ago, but I never wrote a single character.
Maybe I wasn't clear about this in my opening question.
Well, I will decide later what to do with these 2 accounts. Maybe I will merge them to one. Or ...?

There is a 301 redirect from your old Squidoo account to your new HP one, and that is valuable, IF your lenses were doing well and getting good traffic.   So if that's the case, I certainly would not be deleting those Hubs and moving them to your other account.

Your other account is empty so just delete it:

I take it that the second account is your lenses from Squidoo.  Right now, these accounts have a grace period. The grace period ends when you hit the edit button on each, lens, now hub.  Once you start with editing, the grace period is over for that lens/hub and then has to pass the QAP.

Since the first account does not have any hubs, but is 4 years old, I am not sure if you have to do the HP boot camp thing with 5 hubs that pass QAP before they are featured or not.

What you could do, once you have the squidoo content edited, formatted correctly, etc, you could make one of your accounts a niche account, with the other for miscellaneous hubs.

Downside of 2 accounts: Your earnings are not combined. So when you hit payout minimum of $50, it has to be $50 earned on each account. The earnings are not combined.

Melissa: I am not finding lenses anymore that have the 301 redirect.  I have used Squidoo URLs and get this every time now

    squidooHubPages
Sorry, the page you requested was not found because the site Squidoo is now part of

Have you reported that to HubPages?    The redirects are supposed to stay in place for the long term.

Thank you to all of you for some very helpful comments.
As a start I will straighten up this "lm" account which only have "ex squidoo lenses". There are a few lenses/hubs which are OK, but there is also many "non featured junk hubs". ... Actually I never took Squidoo really serious even though I quite often reached decent monthly payouts.
