Improve your traffic.... Use Facebook wisely

   I though I would share a tip that has been working well for me of late. My main niche is histoical games, I'll admit this niche is very very very small, mainly re-enactors and larpers pay any attention to this niche, but it's fun and its what I do as a hobby anyways. Micro niches like mine have a hard time attracting visitors, sure the competition for keywords is almost non existant but who searches for Ancient Greek Game of Five Lines.... LOL.... That's where facebook, and linkedin come in. I have searched and joined every group I could find that is related, and I even started one myself on Facebook. Every week I promote a new article as a "game of the week" and link to it from all the groups I belong too, not all at once, a couple groups each day. It keeps traffic coming to my site on articles that generally may not gather traffic. And it seems to be working. My gaming hubs are gaining ground and getting regular traffic whereas before I started doing this they'd get clicks from my friends and my local gaming group, but not much else, now they are growing in popularity.

         never had any luck with Google+.... a few clicks, but no one really spends time on google+ like they do on Facebook

            I have read that Google+ is really good but you have to get used to it, I'm not yet!  You can create groups like on FB which have a good sharing culture.

      I confess that I do not use LinkedIn like a should.  Do you find it helps to join groups there and post links?  If so, I will take a better look.  I know that there are several genealogy groups where my history articles might be appropriate.

         I don't get a ton of traffic from the linked in group, but the traffic keeps comming for longer than facebook tends to. With facebook posts I get a surge for a couple of days, linked in keeps sending me traffic for weeks, sometimes months before trailing off.

   That strategy has worked well for me with my Civil War hubs and other historical topics.
   
   It's best to participate with comments, likes and questions before showing off a hub. That gives people a chance to get used to your face and less likely to perceive you as only self-interested.
   
   Anyway, the group members are hot on their topic so you get a lot of views from them.

      Oh yes I participate actively in the groups, that way I avoid getting blocked as a spammer, but as long as you do that and your links are relevant they appreciate the links

         I have a FB page but haven't used it in that way. Not sure what areas it would work best, so I'll need to check out which groups would work for me.  Never thought of that, thanks Jeff.

            You know I never really thought of it before a month or so ago, I belonged to the groups because I liked seeing what people posted, the group I started I was posting weekly articles (primarily my own hubs, but other articles too) but not really thinking about doing it on the other groups then I saw someone else was doing that every article they posted would show up in almost all the groups and I wondered how well that worked, and low and behold it worked awesome for me.

   It has worked in the past, but today sharing a hub made its views go up, but it dropped 8 spots on its topic page from #2 to #10---nearly invisible to people browsing that topic page.
   
   In general I think it's good, but today I was sharing multiple hubs in the topic for reasons other than readership or views (except in general for the topic and multiple good hubs, to offset a new hub with erroneous dangerous medical information), so I did it to myself.....
   
   I just happened to notice the harm my altruism did to my hubs, which made me notice this thread.
   
   Google plus had put hubs and blog posts of mine way up top in Google rankings occasionally..... More so than Facebook.
