I am wondering what is the best way to write a product review Hub without it being too promotional.

    How can I avoid this?

    Anyone have any useful tips?

If you look at the recent blog post, HubPages gave three examples of good product review hubs and bad product review hubs. The post also gives some guidelines.

      My personal opinion:

      1. A good product review hub is based on real experience. It has actual photographs to prove that the reviewer has actually seen, touched, and used the product.

      2. It should include a little bit about the competitors. Why did you buy this product instead of the others? What criteria should I use to decide what to buy?

      3. It should explain the features in your own words, and not be advertising copy. I want to know what features you found most helpful, and what features looked important but weren't.

      4. It should say what you didn't like about the product.  An all positive review is likely to be a fake one. The reason to look outside of a sales site is to get the real scoop.  Give me real scoop, not advertising copy.

      5.  It should tell me something that I can't get from a product review from Amazon.  What? history, how popular it is, what else I need to buy to get this product to work right, different use of the product, etc.

      5.  The overall feel of the hub should be that you are trying to inform me about this product, not trying to sell it to me. Sure, I might click on the link and buy this product or its competitor, but it shouldn't feel like a sales hub.

I agree with all of this.  When I look at product reviews I am looking for believable, first hand experience with all the pros and cons.  The few product review hubs I wrote do well because I have an actual photo of my product, and I wasn't "hard selling" but just talking about my experience.  I also found my best one is one that compares 3 similar products - all of which I had experience with.

Millionaire Tips, could you post the link to the HP Blog you refer to in your comment above? If I had trouble finding that, I am sure a lot of other people have, too.

I think that if you focus on giving insight that will help a consumer select a product and keep product links directly related it will be fine. If a hub is actually about a product, offering links to that product will not cause issues.
