I sent a link to someone for a hub and they said it wasn't there. I just looked and everyone of them has been disabled due to being overly promotional.
These hubs have been up for years with no problem
Has this happened to anyone else?
New rule change. Products that aren't directly related to the content of the hub are considered spammy elements. Example: a recipe hub with an Amazon link to a kitchen appliance not mentioned in the hub.
Some of HubPages' rules are monitored by automated filters, in which case problems get picked up as soon as your Hubs are published. However other rules are monitored by moderators, and they can sometimes take months to get around to your Hubs and notice the problem. I'd say that's what has happened in your case.
Unfortunately we can't see them now, so we don't know what might've been wrong with them - but I can give you some ideas what to look for. "Overly promotional" is a confusing term because it usually refers to problems with links.
In each Hub, you are allowed to have only two links to the same website. Photo credits count, but Flickr and Wikimedia are "whitelisted", meaning you can have unlimited links to them.
All links in a Hub must be strictly relevant to the topic. That means you can't add a link to your blog or website, unless it's to a page about the same subject as the Hub. You also can't link to your HubPages profile, or to your Facebook or Twitter or ... you get the picture. You also can't include a list of your other Hubs, unless they are on the same subject. Don't forget Amazon and eBay capsules - they are also links so they must also be directly relevant to your topic.
You can't put a paragraph at the end of your Hubs blatantly inviting people to visit your blog, Facebook like, etc.
The other, less common meaning of "overly promotional" is what it sounds like - if you've written Hubs which are basically press releases for your business, and they don't offer meaningful information in their own right, they're not acceptable.
I hope that gives you some clues.
How many hubs did you have unpublished?
I'm afraid we might be seeing more thread topics like this, because everyone does not keep up on the changes on HubPages.
Anyway, I do hope you will be able to rework your hubs and get them published again soon, without too much stress.
New rule.....sigh!
And a generic "overly promotional" email, so basically I have to go through them ALL again and figure out what they deem as wrong.
What an absolute acher of balls!
If you can find the email, there's a link to create a help forum post that allows logged in users to see your unpublished hubs and help you find what might be wrong. I found one of your hubs in Google cache:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/s … &gl=us
It's possible HP thinks your hub exists solely to promote those businesses you linked to, even if that is not your intention.
About 30 - Some didn't even have links. All subjects vary completely from tattoos to money saving.
It's like someone just seen one thing they didn't like and switched them all off.
Have you checked the links in photos? Are you sure you don't have a link to your profile, or social networking sites?
I recommend reading the blog post about the new rules.
http://blog.hubpages.com/2015/01/07/an- … -capsules/
Also, the rule that there had to be at least 50 words for each Amazon capsule has been increased to 100.
Well I resubmitted them and they are clearing (with no changes) This is very odd
Claire Roach,
Sometimes if you are in Edit Mode, you get a better explanation of what HP considers the problem to be.
Last week I had 8 hubs unfeatured, but when I checked, it was all petty things. One was a book review of a book popular about 3 yrs. ago. They said another person used that title. Of course, it's the same book and author! I just called it, "Whoever's, and the name of the book," and it was OK. It's not fair, because when I wrote the hub it would have told me someone else used the title already, so person 2 came after me.
Some said I had too many Amazon capsules, but I didn't, I changed them all as the rules changed. Since I never make money on them anyway, I don't know if I would bother to add Amazon capsules anymore.
One said I had too many pictures in a row. So it was all silly stuff. It took about 20 minutes to fix, and they were all featured the next day. I don't see why they waited YEARS to tell me either. I suppose we will be dealing with issues like this for some time. Don't panic, fix what they want, and it will be OK.
Possibly a filter glitch. That is odd.
Fingers crossed.

I find it hilarious that Hubpages pushes the concept of helping new Hubbers yet my Hub which has had very good reception by the community has been flagged for being both overly promotional and substandard.I had 5 social bookmarking links, and 2 other links to free tools absolutely related to the...

Is there a balance of Amazon products on a page that makes a hub overly promotional? Or is it dependent on the individual hub (over and beyond the 50 words per product)?

I'm pretty new to HubPages (joined 6 weeks ago but got "busy" about 2 weeks ago posting Hubs) -- I got spanked last week and had a hub taken down temporarily for citing direct links to the particular information relating to multiple parties (all of which linked to SEC.gov, but different...

I'm not even sure what that means. I have almost no links on anything, only 1 even has an amazon capsule, and I don't even know how to "keystuff" (it was listed on possible promotional items list). A friend told me maybe they think my content is generated by A.I. Well, it's not. I...

Recently, I've had a few automated messages from HubPages saying that my hubs are overly promotional. I must admit, this has left me a little baffled.I try to write tightly themed hubs, providing good, relevant information to readers, linking to mine and other's related hubs.I'd be very grateful to...

I just had a hub called as "Overly Promotional". It's not a great Hub, but I can't see how it can possibly fit that description. It's here:http://hubpages.com/hub/super14It is about the Super 14 Rugby Competition and provides many links to sites with info about the teams involved -- links...
