Give visitors a way to hide the button that covers up photos

Argh, this is driving me mad.

I was giving a final once-over on one of my transferred-from-Squidoo accounts, now that I've updated all its images, only to find that all the illustrations in " thumbnail" photo capsules are partly covered up by a big black  "See all 43 photos on this page" button. It's often hiding the very thing I'm trying to point out to readers.

I could abandon thumbnail-format photo galleries to avoid this problem, but it would make my hubs too long to have that many illustrations between each text section, plus, that won't help people on mobile who are likely to double-click images hoping for a magnified view (which is what I was testing).

Please, let's give visitors some way to hide the link to the slideshow so it's not covering up pictures in situ. Also, although I realize this takes cookie work, please make sure visitors don't have to keep turning it off for each and every illustration or diagram on the page.

The slideshow function is a nice bonus, but it shouldn't interfere with the actual purpose of pictues on webpages: to illustrate the text.

    Thanks!

I vaguely remember having this issue before. I think my workaround was to add a stand-alone image as the first image.  I think that the thumbnails didn't get written over when they weren't the first capsule. But it is a vague recollection and I may be completely wrong.

We had to make some choices regarding formatting when we imported Squidoo content as it didn't always translate well to existing capsules.
Do you have a URL for an example Hub?

I agree, Greekgeek. In my experience, it is the only site that offers to show all of the photos at one time. I have commented about that in another forum, quite a while ago.

If one can view all of the photos at one time, it seems to detract from reading the article. Surely there is a valid reason for it, but the reason escapes me.

I'm not too keen on that either -- many visitors doubtless do not read my article because viewing the slideshow is a shortcut being pushed on them very aggressively, but then they miss my text content. However, that is a separate issue, and I doubt HP will budge about that. So I'm not debating whether the slideshow should BE there.

I'm just asking that the slideshow button not cover up the pictures on our hub in non-slideshow mode.

Ah - apologies! I did not realize the slideshow button does that. Now, I shall have to check hubs with different browsers.

In my opinion, anything partially covering up the photos is not a great idea.
