I am seeing a site called buttons for website dot com on my stats pages - is anyone else seeing this and should I be concerned?  Is this not a spam site?

I've been getting that on my one of my own sites. Not sure what it is. Thought it was referrer spam at first.

Referrer spam is not necessarily cause for alarm. Mostly it's used to get people to click the link so they get traffic to their site.

Here's a bit about referer spam, including what matt cutts said about it. https://www.seroundtable.com/referer-spam-16321.html

Weird, it redirects to sharebutton dot net.  My guess is you got traffic from a sharing button hosted by that site.  What can you really do about unusual traffic sources though?

That is very likely as I found an online discussion about  a hub which was being looked at at the same time as this site appeared in Google real time
Only time will tell I guess.

I just checked and have not seen it so far Sally. Did you check it out? Do not because I just looked on Google and it said that it is a spam scam. I would delete it.

I saw them on my Google real time stats. There is nothing for me to delete on my pages as yet.
I was curious and wondered who they were so I looked them up.

Hi sallybea, this is definitely Spam, in fact, is called referral SPAM there are a few ways to stop them you can block it on your .htacces by adding this:

    ## SITE REFERRER BANNING
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} buttons-for-website\.com [NC,OR]

Just be careful and make a backup of your file first.

If you don't feel comfortable editing the file you can add a filter in your admin tab of google analytics

Carlos, remember, it is not possible for HP users to access, copy, and/or edit the .htaccess file for Hubpages.com.  Only the owners of the site can do that.

Maybe if you ask the owner he can do it or if not by .htaccess can try any of the methods here http://www.ohow.co/block-referrer-spam-list/
