Interest in Ads...

   Since we are forbidden to click ads on our own hubs, and likewise (or at least highly discouraged) from doing so on others' hubs, what are we to do if an ad catches our eye, and we may be interested in looking at the site behind the ad?
   
   It used to be, that if you hovered over the ad, the URL would become visible, and then, it could be typed into a new tab, separately, thus both satisfying our own curiosity, and avoiding the dreaded 'share-clicking' of each other's ads.  That no longer happens.  Hovering over an ad does nothing.
   
   Can we please get that feature back?

      Copying a link and pasting it into the browser is the same thing as clicking it.
      
      You can click the ads on the the Hubs of other authors.
      
      Hovering over the link and showing the URL is a function of your browser. I just tested in Chrome and confirmed that it does work.
      
      If you see an ad of interest on your Hubs I would suggest simply doing a web search if you see an ad on your Hub and would like more information about the product/company/etc.

         I did not say 'copy/paste,' I said "type into new tab"  i.e., manually  re-type the URL into the new tab.  I don't see how that action could be in any way construed as the same as clicking or copy/paste. 
         
         And thank you for clarifying that it is okay to click ad on other hubbers' articles. That had always seemed as if it was discouraged, from other things I've read on the matter.

         I thought we could not click on other hubber ads, especially Adsense ads. In addition, someone told me we are not to click on Adsense ads on any other site at all, due to being an affiliate. I have ads on my ISP site that I never click on for that reason. Please clarify.

            If clicking on other hubber's Adsense ads is not forbidden, I would prefer not to have people click on my ads. All you need is one person to continually click on an Adsense ad  and you could be banned for fraud. It has happened. You never know what a rogue person might do on the site. If I see something I like, I get off  the site and look it up on my own.

      I don't think we're discouraged from clicking on ads in other Hubbers' posts; I've done it many times because the hub interested me enough to buy. Since much of our traffic comes from within the HP walls, I don't see why buying products from informative hubs would be discouraged, and I don't think it is. Correct me if I'm wrong. Hopefully, an HP admin person will clarify this for us.
      
      However, we're not to click on the ads in our own hubs for obvious reasons.

         Good--and I see Matthew has confirmed this.  (Something new?  I've always heard it was frowned upon.)  And yes, I know clicking our own ads is a huge no-no! 
         Now, I'll have to re-find the hub I was reading..because there was an awfully yummy-looking dessert featured, and I really wanted to look it up, but found nothing when I Googled everything I thought it might be.  LOL

   I buy a lot from Amazon, since I live in a rural (ie. shopping-deprived) area.
   I would love to give other hubbers the benefit of my purchases, but this area has been so sketchy, I don't want to risk  losing my account.
   I don't click on ads.
   I sometimes do search keywords for an ad if it interests me, but no direct clicks.

      I wonder what the answer is for clicking on Amazon ads too. I purchase quite a bit there too and why not give other writers here the benefit if it is allowed.

   While the page that contains the ad that interests you is on the screen, go offline. Make sure you are disconnected from the Internet. Then right-click on the ad and select the option 'copy link location' and paste it on to a notepad.
   
   Examining this long string you will be able to identify and separate (from the string) the absolute URL of the web page which has caught your interest. It obviously will start with 'http.'
