I'd like some help with passing the Quality Assessment Process as my lesson plan on cells and DNA is now somehow considered to contain spammy elements. Of my 300 hubs, it is one of my most frequently visited ones, so I would like to have it returned to featured status soon.
-Absolutely nothing featured on the page is not mentioned and used in the lesson plan.
-The links are all valid links used in my lesson plan (such as links to the worksheets we used), and none of them are repeated with live links more than once.
-I have a very low ratio of links related to the amount of text.
-I have a very low ratio of amazon modules to text, and there are not more than two amazon modules grouped together in one section.
-I have original photos (20 in total) for all my text modules.
-Video clips and a reader poll are also included on the page.
Will you please give feedback on what in my Hub Cells and DNA Lesson is considered spammy? Thank you!
Even if every product is integral to the hub and you have high text-to-product ratio, HP often considers hubs with lots of products to be "spammy" and that's been their belief for a long time now.
Were it my hub, I would remove all the products to get it re-featured, then add them back in one by one until I reached the unfeatured point.
Think about this: To make Amazon sales, you really only need one irresistible product link. Once the reader clicks on it, the tracking cookie is set
My guess is that it's the Konos Curriculum link that is setting off the filter because it's an advertisement for homeschooling materials in general rather than a link giving further information about DNA or cells. Items promoted or sold on a hub need to very, very closely match the topic (in this case, cells and DNA) in order to meet HubPages' standards.
Good point. I didn't look at the hub but now that I see it there are a lot of links to other sites. That's another thing about HP, they often consider links to other sites spam even if the author is not intending to promote another business.
Thank you! I'll play around with your suggestions and see if those help.
Your links to other lesson plans (which are not on the same topic, so irrelevant), and the Konos Curriculum (also irrelevant) are the most likely culprits.
You do have a lot of Amazon capsules and HubPages seem to have a prejudice against them these days, but I'd get rid of the other links first and see what happens.
Although frankly, since you have such a good specialist field, I'd recommend moving all the lesson plans to your own blog, where you'd be able to move them intact and would be likely to build a good following. PM me if you'd like to explore that further.
Thank you for your suggestions!
I try to credit my sources/inspirations, which is why Konos is listed. I'll try to make it more clear as to why that is there.
Some of my readers found were not able to easily locate the lessons within the individual unit studies as the hub links for related lenses was not readily obvious to them.
I have considered switching everything over to a blog, but my time is limited these days with my job, family, and other responsibilities. When more free time opens up, I might try to find out more from you.
Explaining the relationship of the links to pages selling lesson plans to the contents of the hub is unlikely to help. The filter is automated so it won't be able to "tell" the sales pages you link to are sources rather than promotions.
You can still credit them by listing them in your sources with the name of the specific lesson plan as you'd do it in a bibliography without a live link. Or you could link to pages of theirs that aren't portals for selling the lesson plans.
My Konos link isn't a live link. The links that are live are ones for things like worksheets we actually used during the lesson and a teacher script we used. I have very few links on the page in comparison with the word count.
Ah. It was live when I read the hub yesterday. If none of the links to pages with items for sale are live anymore, it may be the number of too loosely related links. I think it's not the ratio of links to text but the relevance of the links to the precise topic of the page, cells and DNA.
You say:
"Some of my readers found were not able to easily locate the lessons within the individual unit studies as the hub links for related lenses was not readily obvious to them."
Too bad. It's still not allowed (it used to be, but not now). It's the big weakness of HubPages if you specialise in a topic - it is definitely not easy for your readers to follow your work. HP's navigation is designed to encourage readers to browse across the site, NOT to stay within one sub-domain (I've never fully understood why that is, but it's the case).
As for the blog - it would certainly be a big job to copy and paste everything over to a blog, especially if you don't have them saved somewhere, so yes it may have to wait until you have a block of free time! Get in touch if/when you're ready.
I would have to say it's your misuse of links. You should use the link capsule box to insert links at the right side of the hub and not placed in-text in your hub. Your writing is good, your ad capsules are related to the hub. You could use one or two from ebay, too. I would guess that your lesson plan hub is a bit too technical and education for HP. See if that works and what other hubbers say.
Thank you for your reply. I actually deleted the e-bay module as one of my many attempts at stabbing in the dark to determine what flagged my hub as "spammy."
I don't understand what you mean by using the links capsule? There's absolutely nothing wrong with having in-text links.
