A fluke or is this the real deal?

Yesterday I began changing all of my topics away from things such as "food" and "travel" and moved everything under the subcategory of Recreational Vehicles.  Since then, my views have had a visible spike and I am seeing red arrows all over my stats page.  Maybe it's because of the weekend or whatever, but I am hoping it is because of the new move away from subdomains and my actions with regard to topic changes.  Anybody else?

Perhaps those little red arrows were your own visits.

At first I thought this was so, but I only have 95 hubs.  My counts rose more than 200, so it is not all my own tweaking.

I think category has a significant effect on traffic. The more narrowed down the better; just like keywords.

      Update:

It's mid week now, when my views generally drop.  They have not dropped, but in fact are doing a bit better than normal.  Hope this trend continues.

I hope this isn't a fluke!  Great to hear you're seeing positive results traffic wise.

My Halloween related hubs were doing poorly.  Normally a couple take off in September and the rest the first week of October.  One sees traffic year round.  Didn't happen this year.  However, since the removal of subdomains, the one that gets traffic year round has skyrocketed and some of the others saw a little boost.

I am skeptical to give the changes credit since people would be searching for Halloween stuff during the week before Halloween.  It could be a coincidence.

I'll just have to wait and see if other hubs pick up.  I will be checking my categories and refining them.

On another account I have a Hub that is "scary". It got a huge boost in traffic over the past couple of days. I'm wondering if this is because of the change or just normal. I'm thinking it might be normal because the hub has these sudden surges in organic traffic periodically. At any rate, the change to the main domain hasn't hurt it any.

          Nate,
Just happy to see some traffic.  I was worried that my Halloween hubs were going to be a big flop.  This last week certainly helped.

There is a recent change being rolled out that is starting with  the category of autos or vehicles, that may account for something. I have only a couple in that category, but am seeing some positive moves in them.

Yes, I know.  Most of my hubs were not placed into that category originally because it did not seem to quite fit.  Now ALL of them are located there, so we'll see.

That's great news. They started with Autos and you changed them timely to reap some benefit. Congrats!

Great news, TT2. I will rethink how some of my hubs are categorized.

Awesome, glad that you're seeing improvements. Everyone with articles in those categories has been seeing positive changes. But, I'd think that it would take more time at least 2-3 days after moving to see a change. But, seems like google crawled your pages the moment they got into the Autos category and hence the change in rankings/traffic.

Never considered how important it is to select the right categories for your hub, but does it really have a major impact regarding traffic?

It may not have been all that important before, but with the phasing in of HubPages' new system, it will be critically important from now on.

Marisa, you were here before Subdomains right. I joined just after they were introduced. How was the system back then? Was it just hubpages.com/hub?

Okay makes me feel even better about this change then smile It's a step above what it originally was.

Actually when the idea of the sub-domains was being floated, most of our top Hubbers wanted them to be by topic, not by author - in other words, exactly the setup they're proposing now.

Oh but I'd say subdomains was the better option back then, because the bad hubs (which were numerous) would have probably destroyed our chances of success with this setup. And we'd never have returned to it.

50% increase in traffic and my hubs are still showing under my subdomain for some searches. So all I can say is wow!

Btw this 50% increase is taking it close to what it was like a year ago. So I'm hoping it goes even higher. May motivate me to write more lol.
