Why would a hub disappear?

Has Hubpages now started deleting hubs which need revision - without any notice?

A hub has disappeared from my account. It was one which needed revision.

I was working on it last week. I haven't deleted it - it's just disappeared.
There's absolutely no record of it and no correspondence about it in the last few days.

Could you have possibly hit the delete button and then clicked the confirm that I delete the hub and only returned after a week to see that it's gone? I think they do keep hubs for up to a week once they are deleted.

Nope - I'm familiar with the delete process and the hub sticks around for a day for the undelete process on the dashboard

...and I was only working with it the day before yesterday

    The last person to complain
    about a disappearing hub
    found it in another account.

Not that it had mysteriously moved itself,
it had never been there at all.

I've got two accounts - and this hub is very definitely in the one which is all about art.

So although a good try I'm afraid that explanation is not applicable in this instance.

I've also got a link to it from another hub and when I click the link I get a "410. That page doesn't exist." message.

Well either it is an error or it is a glitch.  It is not a change in policy.

That's what I'm assuming. Just a pity that nobody from HQ has responded to my email so I don't know which - and I'm still missing a hub which I have NOT deleted!

I think the same thing happened to someone last week.  Staff did respond I think.

I'm hoping they will - but I'm still waiting.

What's the best email address for getting a response?

            team@hubpages.com I think.

That's the one I sent my message to - two days ago.

      They don't work weekends.

Aha - I didn't know that - that would explain the absence of a response on the weekend.

Still no response and it's now 5pm on Tuesday in London.......

Did you look on the niche site it may have been moved to? They are slow at getting back, sometimes it takes five days or so. I hope you find it.

It wasn't currently published. It was marked up as needing revision.

I'd tried updating it - HubPages decided they didn't like it (Amazon links I think - hence need for revision) so I decided to move it to my other site and was in the process of doing this when it disappeared.

Just to rule out another thought, are you looking at your complete hub stats list without the filter set to one specific site?

makingamarkposted 7 years agoin reply to this

I've tried it various ways to see if I can find it. I know it's in my "famous artists" listing - and it's missing from that

I've done the alpha sort on Title field in the complete hub listing to try and find it that way - and it's missing from that.

It's now three days and I still don't have an answer....

I don't know what you mean my "famous artists" listing. Groups have been discontinued a long time ago, if that's what you mean.

I still have a feeling you are hiding it from yourself. Hubs don't get deleted by staff. They may get unfeatured, but not deleted.  Only you can delete them.

You didn't make it clear that you removed your filter. The first filter should show "-select a site-".  If it shows anything else then you might be filtering out the site where it is.

If you go to the categories and pick/filter the one you know it was listed under it brings up a list of the hubs listed under that category.  I included all my famous artist hubs under the famous artists category - and I know this one was listed there.

Irrespective of that if you know for absolute certainty what the title is (as in you saved the page before the transfer from Squidoo) then you can always identify it via the alphabetical listing by title of all the hubs. It's one of the reasons I started grouping hubs with variation on a theme titles - it made it very easy to find them fast - which matters when you have a lot.

Which famous artist was it? Can you remember the title? Might be able to find it.

They've found it for me.  There was a webarchive page from August - which isn't the most recent but it will do.

I've saved that in Safari as a "save page as" which gives me a complete file with live links which can be called up like a pdf at any time.

The support team said that I had deleted it. I disagree.

They say this is on the basis that (quote)
"We never delete articles except in cases where an account has been inactive for years and all articles in the account are unpublished and the author does not respond to our inactivity warning emails.

There are no circumstances in which we would ever delete an active published author's articles."

However my (somewhat practiced) routine is that I never ever delete the hub until such time as
    * I have got all the text transferred (which had not happened) and
    * after I've made sure I have a complete "save page as" in pdf format - which I hadn't yet done
and that's how I know it was EMPHATICALLY NOT ME who deleted the hub.

So I guess we'll label this one as a mystery!

I do now have webarchive page from the Wayback machine which is not the most up but it will do.

All I need to do now is check the links all over again and continue the transfer.

So, either you have become forgetful, or HP have become secretly evil... Hmm, which could it be?

I'm not forgetful when it comes to deleting hubs. I've got a rigid routine with a double set of fail safes built in

I'm not commenting about what HubPages - or its staff - get up to.

You can impugn motives if you want to. Personally I subscribe to the cock-up theory of life.
