No Option to Configure Amazon in External Affiliate Settings

   Hi everyone,
   
   I am trying to configure Amazon in 'External Affiliate Settings' although it looks like I do not have this option. It only seems to be an option under 'HubPages Earnings Program Settings'. Does anyone else have this problem or am I doing something totally wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

      As far as I am aware, it is only Google Adsense that goes under the external affiliate settings. I believe this is because you have to independently have an Adsense account, in your own right.
      
      You set up the Amazon affiliate program via HubPages Earnings Program Settings. There is no configuration needed, as far as I recall.

         Thank you for your reply. I had another account years ago and I was able to add Amazon externally. This is still an option in this account.
         Btw are you using Hubpages Earnings? I have been considering it. Thanks

            I vaguely recollect inserting my own Amazon affiliate ID, but believe that changed some years ago.
            Yes, I signed up for the HubPages Ad earnings. I can't honestly say that I notice any significant difference in income because I only have a handful of hubs. I keep intending to write more but find that my time is more profitably spent writing short books for Amazon Kindle.

   Unless something has changed for new members, you should still have the option of using your own external Amazon ID. There should be a green Configure button next to your Amazon settings on your Earnings Settings page.

      Hi there, thanks for your comment and link. I had a read through that the other day. On that link page they show  a 'get started' button in the external section, along with google adsense, although this is not present for me. Maybe this is something that has changed for new accounts.          Okay that is literally impossible to see! You can see though that there is no 'get started' button in the external section. Such a pity.

            Difficult to read the image, as you acknowledge. Is that a 'get started' button next to Amazon, under the Hub Pages Earnings? If so, looks as if that's your only option quite possibly.
            
            Is there a specific reason why you want to insert your own Amazon affiliate ID David and not go with Hubpages? You will typically get a larger affiliate commission with the HP program than you will via your own account, unless you have a significant number of monthly sales.
            
            EDIT: Just checked my account for last month and I received between 8 and 8.5% with Hubpages whereas I only receive between 4 and 6% (depending on country) with my own ID's.

               Hi Cheryll, yes that is a get started button indeed. Although if I chose that option through Hubpages Earning Program I wonder if that will also associate my Google Adsense account. I wonder if I could keep my Google Adsense external for now and just set up my Amazon through Hubpages Earnings. I'll look into that now. Yes I read that you get more commission via Hubpages.

                  I just signed up for Amazon through Hubpages. After going through this process, very quick I may add, there was some text half way down the page mentioning to click here to 'configure an external Amazon Associates ID'. You can only see it when you go through the Hubpages earnings section. In an older account I remember a 'get started' button in the External Affiliate Settings section. I guess they removed this very visible button on new accounts to entice people to set up Amazon through HubPages.

                     Unless you have a particular reason for wanting to use your external Amazon account, it's generally worth using the HP one instead.
                     
                     Because most of us are on the HP account, it has a much bigger volume of sales and therefore our commission moves up into the next bracket. Yes, HP takes a cut, but because of the higher commission, you should end up ahead.  Plus, of course, you get your Amazon commission through HP instead of through Amazon, which is convenient.
                     
                     Your Adsense is always "external" and it's an essential prerequisite for earning any money at all on HubPages.  That's virtually all it is, though, because once you activate the HP Earnings Program you will earn little or nothing from Adsense.   That's because there will be only ONE Adsense ad on each Hub, and it's right at the bottom where most readers will never reach!   You will see other Adsense ads on your Hub but they are part of the HP Earnings Program.

                        Thank you for your comment and all of the info Marisa. I think I've just been unnecessarily confusing myself. I just signed up to the Hubpages program and signed up for Amazon through them. Yes I read that only one advert would be for my external Adsense. I have some other Adsense earnings so I'll see how that goes.

                           Most people find they earn more using all aspects of the HP Earnings Program, but you can switch HP Ads off any time you like - if you need to boost your Adsense earnings to reach threshold, for instance.

                  Yes, you can keep your Google account via external affiliates although I think you have already worked that out now David!
                  It was difficult for me to see the options available to you without cancelling my HP Amazon affiliate account and reinstating it,  which naturally, I did not wish to do. However, I have also read your later comment to Marisa and note that you state that you may have been over-complicating matters. This is probably true although, I know from personal experience that things are not always black and white.
                  Anyway, welcome to HubPages David and good luck with your writing!
