Monthly audience up 20%, revenue down 30%

   I find it helpful to compare the current month and recent months with the same months from a year ago to see how my revenue and audience are doing.
   
   The above title explains my situation. I have both HP ads and AdSense. Is anyone else who tracks their numbers every month seeing the same trend?

      I have never had enough revenue for a payout.  I gave up a long time ago.

      Both earnings and traffic have more or less doubled for me. I have experienced a little bit of a drop in earnings and traffic over the past week which I'm hoping is just a normal fluctuation.
      
      One thing that bothered me about this recent drop in traffic/earnings is that it happened right after a popular article of mine was edited. However, I don't think an edit would affect traffic that quickly either way.

         If you use Google Analytics, can you say how much of your audience comes from mobile? Mine is 52%.

            66.9% over the last 7 days. 67.2% over 90 days.

               If you have your own AdSense account, is the mobile revenue unusually low? Also, do you see ads on your pages on a smartphone? You might see them on a 4G network. I don't see them on 3G.

                  My revenue from mobile is not particularly lower than, say, compared to last month. But I can't really remember what I usually earn from mobile. I do know my traffic from mobile is usually pretty high. That's when I check stats in Analytics. So, doesn't seem like that is reflected in the Adsense stats. Sorry, having a hard time answering that question.
                  
                  I was able to see ads on my articles using my phone.

      I have one possible cause. I'm not getting any AdSense revenue from the mobile visitors who account for 52% of my audience.
      
      If I'm not getting a dime of mobile revenue from AdSense, which is 1 out of 6 ad positions, I assume I'm not getting much if any from HP ads either.
      
      The reason appears to be slow loading pages. I scrolled through the entire text of my top-performing article, and all of the 5-6 ad positions were blank. After several minutes of total page loading, they collapsed and resulted in no ads on the page at all.
      
      HP staff, can you please comment?

   Yes, I am experiencing something similar (although my traffic is just about the same as last year at this time).  But, my earnings are down and I am not sure why.

         August has been a very slow month, so far it's on pace to be the 2nd or 3rd slowest month of the year, but that probably has to do with what you said among other factors.
         
         My tech articles don't do well in the summer either.

         It's a good thought, but it's why I like to compare a month with the same month from a year ago to compensate for holidays and such.
         
         The majority of my articles cover travel, so they tend to do better in the summer. You would think the ad revenue would be up as well rather than down.
         
         Maybe it's an early sign that the economy is slowing.

   I seem to be having the opposite problem. My traffic is down 22% and revenue is up. Traffic has been slowly dropping as my articles get moved to niche sites. Weird since most of my traffic comes from Google, however I think the move prompted some of my articles to drop in search engine results. I don't know. I'm still not earning much money, but it's up at least from this time last year by over 10 dollars. I've been earning more from Amazon though, so my earnings are skewed slightly and I don't know how to get percentages or anything.
