On Pix Going Full-Width:

   Question:  When the date comes that photo capsules will automatically morph into full-width, will we still know which hubs were affected, so we can do any needed 'clean up?'
   
   As of now, this notice is shown at the top of our listing of hubs:
   
   "All Capsules Will Soon Be Full Width
   Please stop by the HubPages Blog for more details. View your articles that will be affected."
   
   At the moment, this is handy, especially for those of us with hundreds of articles.  I've been working on it, but there are still 200+ that fall under the 'will be affected' status. 
   As I have forgotten the roll-out date for that, I don't know if I'll have time to finish the project (I do have other things to accomplish in my days, as well...    )
   
   So, if the link to the affected hubs could remain live, that would be most helpful.

      All that will happen is that pictures in those hubs will go full width.  That is unlikely to really mess up a hub.

   In case it doesn't happen, just go to the page where the untouched hubs are mentioned, select all text, and paste it somewhere. Such as a notepad or word file. At least you'd have a record.

   I would take pictures of the list. It's very likely that it won't remain as I would assume they are looking for certain bits of code in the hubs to create this filter. When the pages go full width, these pieces of code are going to disappear.
   
   The date is the 15th of Jan, I would make a note or take pictures right now instead of waiting for confirmations from any staff member.

   If anyone reads this, I'd sure appreciate some insight. It seems like when I write an article and add a pic, the pic is HUGE!! I'm not seeing a way to make it smaller, unless a thumbnail. I know I read some things about "full width" .. Maybe this decision for full width images comes from the fact that a reader needs to scroll more thus adding page engagement time. Is there a way to make these images smaller on the page? I've been a Hubber since 2010, just haven't written many articles lately and not used to the newer format. If full size pics engages interest and increases cpm and traffic, fine by me.Hubpages knows more about traffic then I do.Just not a big fan of the large pics. Check out some of my articles.. any advice?

      The photos are being made full width to suit mobile phone readers, which are the bulk of HubPages readers.
      
      The only thing you can do is choose photos which are landscape, not portrait. Looking at your Hubs, I can see lots of images where you could crop the top and bottom.

   I would agree with Marisa about using the Landscape shaping!  I can see plenty of spots where you could crop some of you images to give them the Landscape feel ,  however don't worry too much they should look ok on mobiles !   I see some of your Hubs have not been changed to full width as yet . Do them and see how they look ?

   Besides cropping top and bottom to make images landscape, if you need to keep the entire image you can add white space to the left and right. I do this with many of mine just to make them smaller. This can easily be done with most any image editing tool. Just don’t make them too small or else they’ll be tiny on mobile.

      Some of the images I have downloaded are long instead of landscape and cannot be cropped. When they appear on Pethelpful however they cut off the top and the bottom, often ruining the image. Will adding the white space to the left and right of the photo allow me to keep using it.
      Here is an example (you can see why I cannot crop it)

         DrMark, I always find something that can be done. I cropped off the wasted black area on top AND added white space on both sides. Feel free to use it in your hub if you like it.

      It's actually very simple. No special program. I just used the Preview Tool on my Mac.
      
      I created a white filled image the size I want for hubs. Then I just copied and pasted your image into that and resized and cropped it within the wider white filled background.
      
      The same can be done with the “paint” tool in windows.

      I use a program called Paint (not to be confused with Paint that comes with Windows).  You can get it free here:

      It does a lot of the stuff Photoshop does but it's nice and simple to use.
      
      With the photo you gave in your example, am I right that dog's lying down?  It looks to me as though the pic would work just as well if you rotated it to landscape.

         Yes, that one would be okay if it was rotated, but I have a lot of photos on Pethelpful that cannot be rotated and do not appear normal when displayed there. I used to use paint.net but I somehow lost it and do not have it on this laptop. Thanks for that link.
