The amount of weights one use differ according to the goal he needs. Like, if you have to make your body more fit, you use light weights with more repetitions which also help to burn more fat.
At the same time, if you like to build up massive muscles, you gotta train urself with heavy weights, but you should consider good protein diet.
So, u see it depends on the goal we set. And we have to train accordingly.
I suggest looking for the book by Mark Rippetoe titled "Starting Strength"
That book is excellent. You can also start looking into CrossFit. They do a wide variety of exercises that will help you become an elite athlete

How many reps should you do and how much weight should you use to gain muscle?i workout a lot.. but I dont seem to ever gain muscle... when im in the gym I do as many of the weight machines I can... but I only seem to be able to withstand more and more but it never shows in my muscles... help pls!
