Why are so many people unable to see passed race or color in 2009 ?

I am mixed like I like to say it I am half Italian and half Puerto Rican and I still have to deal with both sides it seems hard for me to just be seen as me and not what race I am.

Due to a slower birthrate in the last 35 years or so, the population is growing older. I say that to say this. Many, NOT ALL, older folks of all races here are likely more traditionalists. The blacks want their black sons and daughters to marry blacks; whites want whites, hispanics--hispanics, and so on. Many of those, when asked, and who are reigious, will quote Old testiment scripture out of context about how the races are to remain separate. The scripture was referring to Hebrews remaining separate from people of other faiths. God has no problem, and their is no Biblical basis for racial separation for any reason. We can marry whom ever we wish. Though, for me, being a Christian, they must believe as I do. Their skin color is of no consequence. Those have historically been the reasons for such objections in my experience. Therefore you are a beautiful mixture of two loving people and God's blessing to them and to us. Don't let what others think worry you. You are God's handywork.

God did not want the Israelites to marry "strange women" because they worshipped idol gods and would likely lead their husbands/wives away from worshipping Him. Ruth, who was a Moabite, was accepted because she chose to let go and follow God.

When in high school, I ran the 440 (yards).  I always passed several other runners in the race.  Those in the races I passed were unable to see past my school colors of red and blue.

Are you kidding me? It's because this is so much more and way bigger than just about you. Are you an individual...yes of course and once we get passed the initial introductions with people we meet it becomes about you based on your personality. Who we are culturally is what makes us, defines us, our history is exciting and interesting. In every race there are stories of struggle, pride, culture, happiness and pain. Our ancestors have bled for our flags so to see it as simple as just us seems selfish to me.

Ok Secondrowray I am talking about it for every one. I have a great ex, on thanksgiving my man and I went to his family's house I have never met any of them before but a friend of mine happened to be there and ever person I met just saw a White girl with their Puerto Rican family member. And after we went home my friend called me and told me about what was said and the family asked about my race  and my back gorund and wanted to know how puerto rican I really was. So me asking this question was for ever one every race and to have a better look at what others think and feel towards race matters. What others think of me or see me as does not or never will make me or change me I am a individual proud of who I am and of my race and culture. You are so right this is way bigger then me and in this day in age most of us are mixed. But for myself I want to be seen as me the woman I am not the color of my skin or what my background is I thank for your comment and hope to hear more from you....
