   Hi I was wondering I just had my 2 year old jack russell spayed yesterday and was wondering if...
   
   it is normal that she only wants water right now and not food? I tried searching and it al says the same that they will act normal is this normal that she doesnt have an appetite the first day? I'm hoping that she will at least eat today in a couple of hours as its onl 1 o'clock am here

   I'm no expert, but I think dogs can go a day or two without food.  And I definitely wouldn't feed her in the middle of the night.  You mentioned it's 1:00 a.m. there. It's important she has water, though.  Just let her be comfortable.  Make sure the surgical area doesn't look infected.  Call your vet if it does.  And help her get outside to relieve herself whenever you think it's been a long enough interval.  Let her have a stress-free environment.  If she had one of those time-release kind of pain medications before she left the vet's, she's not having it too hard.  Maybe tomorrow spoil her with just a little soft, yummy food she's not usually allowed -- but not more than a few spoonfuls to make sure she can keep it down for a couple hours. 
   
   I'm a big advocate of healthy foods for dogs, not the chemical-laden stuff at the big box stores.  So just take my input with a grain of salt. I'm a bit overboard on pets.

   I have a jack russell, but a male.  The one thing I have  learnt is there is no such thing as 'normal'. When our dog was neutered he didn't eat for five days afterwards.  We made sure we offered him food, but he didn't want it.  I certainly shouldn't be worried if she  doesn't eat today - she has had a major operation. That's more traumatic for them than we can probably imagine.  I'd be far more concerned if she didn't want the water.  But if you're worried the best person to reassure you is your vet - just give them a call.

   Yes, it is very normal for her not to want to eat. She just went through major surgery and, just as many humans don't have an appetite after coming out of anesthesia, she has a few reasons to not be very interested in food right now. Keep food available to her and watch her closely, and contact the vet if she doesn't start eating within a couple of days. As long as she's still drinking plenty of water, a little while without eating won't hurt her and she'll eat as soon as she's hungry enough.
