Using social networking sites is good for backlinks, but social interaction, reading and commenting on other people's hubs is also a great way to drive traffic. These people might wanna know who you are and check out your profile.

You can try Social Bookmarking, making it your status update on fb or twitter, adding it in your signature in all emails, commenting on relevant articles and asking people to view your blog if it will add value to the article commented on.

The best way of using social media to drive serious traffic is by using the power of comments. You will have to create a page about yourself in a particular niche. Portray yourself in the page. Try to make friends with people who have similiar likes.Get into peoples life and try to suggest them relevant and good information. Also keep on updating about your product by the use of status updates. Use personal status for updates too otherwise you will be flagged as spam.
Also use of facebook adverts is also a good means of getting serious traffic to your website or affiliate product. If you want to learn more have a look at these links:

Make a page on facebook for your blog and invite people to join this. Update your facebook page whenever you make a new blog post. also share the link on twitter and follow the people interested in your area of expertise.
Write articles and get back links to your blog. Digg your blog posts and update on stumble upon. Join similar forums and share your thoughts and also place links for your blog.
as more you think smartly and plan as more you get desired results.
    thanks

The simple answer is post good content on your blog often and 'announce it' on Twitter and Facebook.

Facebook, Youtube and Twitter are some of the best social media sites you can use to drive more traffic to your site. It all about connecting to people and building real relationship. Interact and give valuable advice and tips and people will notice your commitment to help to solve their problems.
These social media sites can be place where you can build a list even if you don't have opt in page or auto responder. In any cases this is future of the web; I mean look out on trends and number of people joining to these site on a regular basis.

Driving traffic through Social Media to your blog, can be done in various ways:

1- Add Social Media share buttons to your blog allowing others to share your blog with their tribe through Social Media. This is very easy and effective way as you are getting people to endorse you and hence adds credibility to your blog and as a result more traffic

2- As soon as you write your blog post share it with your tribe on the various Social Media platforms. Use URL shorting tools so you can track which platform is most effective for you. Additionally, share it in many different ways so you grab the attention of different target markets.

3- RSS feed your blog to your Facebook page and also Twitter

4- Interact with other blog owners that have relevant interesting topics that compliment or add to your blog

There are other ways I guess but this is what I can think of for now.
