Why are catholic pastors not allowed to marry, whereas protestant pastors are?
Catholic priests are not allowed to marry due to religious beliefs that men must be pure to be close with God and women are naturally not viewed as pure beings (or something along those lines).
Protestant's have different beliefs than Catholic's as far as that goes, which is why they are allowed to marry.
I've seen a documentary last week talking about this.
Pastors were not allowed to marry, because if they found a family, when the pastor dies, all his money will go to the family. But if he's alone, the money will go to the church.
This caused several problems. Since they are not allowed to be with someone, they do not have sex. People were confessing about sexual "sins" a lot. The pastors were to listen to their stories. That was their "porn" because they weren't allowed of anything else.
There is nothing Biblical to prevent a Roman Catholic priest from being married. It is purely a policy set by the Roman Catholic Church, because if married, the priest would have to decide how to divide his time between his own family and the parishoners, and parishoners were demanding total attention from their priests, even as they do now.
I guess because they are married to the church. I think they should be allowed to marry because God honors marriages
Married men can now become Catholic priests... however, priests who have already taken a vow of chastity are not allowed to break it and are thus not allowed to marry.
The Catholic Church allows Episcoplian Priests to become Catholic Priests if they enter into the church. The same with the Lutheran Priests and Orothodox Priests. In the Orthodox Churches if a man is married and wants to become a Priest he is allowed but if the man is single while he enters the Priesthood he is allowed to marry. He must already be married.
because the object of catholicism is for the heads of the religion to read the bible and make the masses do the opposite. There is no scripture for such in fact marriage is the norm as it is not good for the man to be alone. Many of the catholic doctrines are in direct opposition to the bible on purpose because this is what surfaced from the government church in rome before it became known as catholic, hence roman catholic church.
In today's circumstances even if they were allowed to marry they would not because for them life as it exists is easy without anyone to care for.
Moreover if they marry their spouses would do everything to make them practice what they preach which in any case they do not intend to.

How does legalized gay marriage "ruin" or affect a heterosexual one?One of the most common arguments against gay marriage is that legalizing gay marriage will somehow minimize or ruin heterosexual marriages. Admittedly, this is one of the stupidest arguments out there, but it is one...

When did celibacy start being a requirement for priests? As Catholic, celibacy for priests has always been a given to me, but I started to wonder: why? I don't remember Jesus saying anything to Peter about being celibate. Was he? When did it all start and who decided it was going to be a...
