How is it that even during the worst of times just seeing ur newborn baby smile takes all the...
pain away and brings you a great sense of joy?
I think it is knowing that the simple joys in life are what you should focus on instead of negative subjects.
because the baby shows unconditional love and the baby's purity in smile and happiness drives away the pain
The single drive underlying all human activity, top-to-bottom, front-to-back, is the creation and development of more little healthy baby humans. You can actually apply that logic to all life forms, so it's not that big a stretch.
In the "Gain Pleasure / Avoid Pain" motivational paradigm (which are absolutely the sole reasons we do ANYTHING), babies are Pleasure on a cellular level. That great sense of deep Joy you feel is our genetic reason for being.
And congratulations on your baby. ;-)

Do we live in the best of times or the worst of times?

First time parents, what did you think when you first brought your newborn home? When my wife and I got home, we sat on the couch for a long while, and stared at each other and the baby, not quite sure what to do. It was a little strange. I guess we were in shock.
