That guy resorts to ad hominem against liberals... I wanna know why his mocking statement is allowed.... and I can't respond to it.

He keeps going after liberals like SweetiePie and Lita.... when they respond they seem "mean" compared to the "nice" replies of other conservatives who aren't at the recieving end.... liberal folks need to speak out too. smile

I find it best not to respond to him, although I sometimes find the temptation too hard to resist. I can't take anything he says seriously.

The person in question does the same kind of thing to fellow Conservatives from time to time.  It just may not be showing up in recent threads.  It's his "forum style".   smile

Ideally, both Liberals and Conservatives would have their (reasonable) voices heard (even if things got a little heated at times).  It's too bad, though, that attempts at "legitimate discussion" so often dissolve into what they do.    hmm  (I have to admit, though, there's something really entertaining about an unreasonable knock-down/drag-out.   smile   ).

I do not agree with disrespectful attacks towards anyone, especially towards someone's character when they are attempting to respectfully present their viewpoints. While we're on the topic of ad hominem attacks, I don't think anyone can deny that they are exclusive to conservatives. Unfortunately, they are practiced by both sides on a frequent basis. I wish we could keep this out of HP all together.

How unpleasant has been your experience with him compared to sweetiepie or lita?.... his discussion tactics are primarily aimed at liberals.... unless you haven't noticed who practices it more against whom.... both sides aren't equal. smile

I wasn't referring to HP. More so the media. I have had many personal ad hominem attacks off of this site. It is the nature of politics. I have been written negatively about in political blogs and quoted in D.C. tabloids. So, I've had a few unpleasant experiences. But, I understand that is the nature of political debate. There is a much larger political world outside of HP. It happens everywhere. If I started receiving attacks on character on this site, of course I wouldn't like it. But, I'm used to it.

Either way, it certainly isn't right and of course I don't condone it, no matter the format and irregardless of who it is directed towards.

Fair enough. big_smile And please, if you ever see me making a personal attack towards Obama or any other person that I do not agree with, call me out on it. (It'll never happen - that is just not how I operate - I'm all facts based). big_smile

Certainly. lol I mean text from the actual legislation. That, itself, is very indisputable. That is what I base my opinions (and concerns) off of.

A "text" gonna have multiple aspects.... pick what is convenient.... supporting my view point....  and ignore the rest.... gotta leave now.....  nice talking to you.... you're smart. smile

hey, look at that. You two actually know how to disagree and talk respectively. If only certain individuals on the forums in question could learn that skill. Instead they stick with the "I'm right all the time and even if you prove me wrong I won't back down and will just start making personal attacks on you" attitude.

Best to point out such things when you see them. That way all can see if there really is an ad hominem 'attack' or if someone is interpreting anything in opposition to his or her opinion as an 'attack' and/or has deliberately decided to make the discussion about him or herself.

    Just came across this...

Jon, ignore the one in question if you possibly can.  Too many have tried and failed to call him out (although everyone knows).  Take my word for it.  He's the reason, ie, some no longer are on the forums by choice....  And they won't get rid of him.

My one hub, on the spirit vs. the letter of the law is about this situation.

One of the graphic designers I work with didn't show up for to work for two days.  Just because.  He's still employed.  ie, some get away with it, some are doubly censored.  And sometimes management is blind or turns a blind eye.

I agree with much of what you say.  Personally I am just not letting him bother me as he seems to enjoy asking way too many questions.  I need to learn not to participate on certain threads.  It seems really important for certain people to always be right, if you know what I mean, and his need really drives the inquisitions smile.
