How can i keep my hair from getting rough and dry?

I have long hair, rough and dry. I have to straighten my hair several times, but I like natural hair. So I just want to know how to maintain soft, smooth and shiny hair.  Thank you?

I have the same problem, my hair dried out from to much straightening though, check out my hub 'Lets get it straight' for some tips on getting your hair in good condition.

Keep it out of the sun!! Use sunscreen for your hair if you do go out in the sun without a hat. Use conditioner and use a leave-in conditioner after you are done washing.

Using Moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, I personally tried Sally's generic version of Nexxus shampoo and conditioner and it works great. Also you should deep condition by sitting underneath the dryer with a plastic cap for up to 20 minutes it makes a big difference.

from your picture i can see that your a high lifted blond, its funny i see this question because i wrote a hub about how to do this and what products to use a few days ego. that being a hub about deep conditioning, me being in the industry i cant tell you enough how much it helps, because i have been i high lifted blonde and because bleaching it so high removes protein and moisture out of your hair you have to physicality put it back in yourself. when you dont do the deep conditioning you need to use Moroccan oil, i know it sounds like a gimmick but its amazing and you wont regret it!!!

It is better to stay away from direct rays of sun. But if you are working and you will have to go out and work, then you must use an umbrella. More over you must use sunscreen based shamoo and condiioner for your hair. You must also go for hot oil treatment once in every week. I think this will help you a lot in recovering from this problems.

Since your hair is dry, you have apply moisturiser daily. Wash your hair atleast twice a week and also use heat protector while using the heat appliances.

which ever conditioner you use, leave it on your hair for 5-7 minutes before you wash it down.
also, try using some kind of hair oil, like moroccan oil or coconut oil and apply it warm and keep it for about an hour and shampoo and condition as you would like.
since you want a natural way,
for shiny hair: use lemon juice once a week on your hair.
mix half a lemon juice with same amount of water and pour it down on your hair and run you finger through your hair for a minute or two just to take the time for it to reach all the parts of your hairs. and wash it down.

i have personally tired this natural remedy; just apply "egg white" all over your hair. keep it for 20 minutes and it cures most of your hair problem.

Egg white is full of protein therefore it serves the purpose very efficiently. It gives shinny , healthy and moisturized hair.

If you want you can add , plane yogurt for best results

Apply daily or once a week depending how much your hair need it. Try it and give me feedback. I am sure you will be happy with the results.
