can a manic depressive physically harm anyone?
harm as in hurt another person close to them
Well, some manic depressive people can physically harm the others, even the closest ones, but only certain percentage of them have such tendencies.
The truth is also that many people who donĀ“t have any diagnosis can harm the members of their family, or the others, if they are aggressive, so we cannot generalize and look/judge people through the diagnosis.
One person with the manic depression cannot be compared to the other, so majority of people with this diagnosis are bullying only themselves.
Unfortunately, yes. Manic Depression is now called Bi-Polar IIllness; this mental health condition is very serious and must be well-treated by a psychiatrist. As long as the patient is receiving appropriate medication he/she can live a normal life, and be a danger to no one.
Most adults, and a huge percentage of children of any mental state of being may physically harm anyone.
Why don't you ask a question more reasonable, like either, "can armed, angry cops with an agenda do whatever they want to you?"
Or how about this one, " can solders go around killing anyone they want overseas?"
The illness itslef cant but it can cause one to harm themsleves or others
xkez1x,
It is can harm the person with the illness unless they are diagnosed and put into treatment. My personal treatment includes both therapy and medication. before treatment I had 5 suicide attempts and numerous hospital interventions. Since my treatment I have 15 years without any attempts or hospitalizations. Also keep in mind that a person can become violent, hurting others or themselves. Right now i live a pretty stable and good life and have had no other problems. I stick to my med regime and am basically a high functioning person. I do still have periods of severe depression especially during the winter months.
Warmest regards,
Chris
Any person can physically harm someone, especially when they feel tired, irritable and frightened. The mind can get overstretched when coping strategies break down. It's up to the family and friends of a person who is at breaking point to act with sensitivity and calm.
Do you know someone who has been labelled 'manic depressive'? If so, I can see that you might be concerned. But most of what the media puts out about 'manic depression' or any other 'mental' challenge, is sensationalist and should be ignored. Get in touch with Sane, they will be able to reassure you.

Depressive disorders have been with us since the beginning of recorded history. In the Bible, King David, and Job, suffered from this affliction. In the Book of Psalms you get the idea through David's writing that he suffered much affliction also many praises and victories.
