Does your family have a special or unique tradition to celebrate the birth of Jesus?

Ken, I write about this in my hub, "Presents for Jesus, and other Christmas family traditions."

We read the Christmas story and talk about the meaning.

Growing up, my Mom used to have us as a family give to someone outside our family, as our present to Jesus.

Here is more about this: http://hubpages.com/hub/A-Present-for-J … Traditions

Yes...it's not rooted in religion but it is rooted in love. Several years back, my extended family agreed to drop gift giving from the Christmas equation.  None of us really needed anything of material value and in truth the real special aspect of Christmas was that it brought the family together as one for a while.  We decided to take advantage of that and put our energy and money into just being together, enjoying each other's presence, laughing, singing, and sharing with each other. If we spent money, we did it in a manner that allowed everyone to enjoy it like going out for a really nice dinner. At first it was a bit awkward, then everyone realized that the special aspect of Christmas was still very much there and it was filled with love. It changed my family for the better and moved us a bit closer back toward the direction of the true meaning of Christmas.  God gave us his only son and asked nothing of us in return but our love.  If there is one thing we can do for each other in this special time of year, it is to commemorate the Birth of Christ with our love for each other.
