Do we blame God for the demise of the native Americans or man's fear and cruelty?
History has many accounts of human cruelty toward their own kind. Native American, for example, had their land stolen, and African Americans were forced to be slave laborers. Who's hand was it?
We don't have a right and neither should we blame God about man's indifference and cruelty. The blame is entirely on man's greed for supremacy and power, making him take advantage of another person's weakness.
obviously it is man to blame for all problems on earth. how could a myth be blamed? you could blame the catholic church for a lot of the problems with native americans but you would still be blaming man.
I don't claim to know what God might be up to, but I see no evidence of any kind of divine plan.
Ultimately, people of European descent wanted land where Native Americans lived, and Europeans had all of the advantages: guns, steel, disease, etc. In this situation, it was inevitable that Europeans would predominate. So was this an act of European cruelty? It was definitely an act of conquest, but then again, is there any piece of inhabited real estate on earth that is not conquered territory? History is filled with "winners" and "losers," and horrific things happen when societies come into conflict. It stinks, but that's the way the world has always worked. If anything, you can blame God for creating a world in which acts of "cruelty" are possible.
The problem here is that God gave humans a brain. We have the ability to make choices which reflects how we live. That Eve ate the apple -- despite knowing the consequences -- is a tale (whether fact or fiction) that sums up our existence on Earth. Whether one believes in Darwinism or supernatural creation, fact is we've been on Earth a very long time. Yet, not much has changed. Placing blame elsewhere is definitely a hallmark of humans.
I think it comes down to xenophobia, land lust, or just greed. What made you think that God had something to do with human greed?
Christians have caused the problems, not God. Christians think they are the righteous ones and can do what they want.
Do we blame god for the 5 year old girl who died of complications from diabetes or do we blame the parents of the little girl who chose to pray to god rather than accept medical help? Does the 5 year old boy who lost his father blame god or does he blame the christians who pray to god and thought they heard him say to kill all doctors who preform legal abortions? Do the parents who are baurying their son or daughter blame god for the extra heartache and missery or do the blame the ignorant pieces of crap who heard god tell them to protest at military funerals? It's not the imaginary god who gets the blame, it's all the lunatic followers who hear an imaginary god, issue imaginary orders to break the imaginary laws they choose to ignore in the first place?
As far as the native Americans go, the only connection is that almost every one killed was killed by a christian that did so in his god's name. Remember the old christian ditty...The only good indian is a dead indian, amen.
So, we seem to agree God has no part in atrocities committed by humans. Funny how that is because half of the book of Joshua talks about how the house of Israel conquered and destroyed the inhabitants of that land. Who was helping them? Here in the N. America, who was helping the Europeans est. a US govt to push certain agenda forward? Human thinking, divine intervention or both?
@yazoogal143, don't get personal. We know you are proud of your Tsalagi tribe and they did fight back. The 'Trail Where They Cried' speaks volume but the facts remains; the govt in 1838 intended to remove the Tsalagi tribe from their homelands.
We blame greed because in just about every case where the Native American was forced from the land, there was a greed factor involved to claim the assets associated with that ground. The greed of powerful men to acquire and make money became the rationalization for declaring the entire nation as savages who posed a threat with their proximity. A great rule of thumb is to always follow the money when you analyze these situations. WB
I don't believe in god.
However, if you believe there is a god and you believe that your god created man and then gave man choice, then your god is responsible for every atrocity that man commits.
Your god can't create something and then not be held responsible for what he created.
If there was a god and a devil, I would choose the devil over god because the devil is honest in what he wants. Your god is a lying hypocrite who doesn't give a crap about man.
Man's fear, greed, cruelty, immaturity, disrespect and lack of patience.
Any entity referred to as 'god' has nothing to do with man's onw capacity for evil, greed, cruelty and wrongdoing.
Especially not a 'god' as defined by mainstream religion as "caring and merciful." I see no such evidence.
Mankind has an almost boundless capacity for cruelty, greed, inhumane acts against other humans and so-called "non-human animals.'
There is no excuse, and blaming or claiming any 'god' gave them the right or 'told them' or 'blessed' their actions only compounds the insult and injury as such claims are outright lies.
Blaming some other entity is, sadly, a favorite pastime of the human species. We blame 'god' for things gone wrong; we blame 'satan' for our own capacity for evil. No one but ourselves are responsible for our own actions. Period.
If there were a 'god,' claiming to know or understand the mind of same would be the ultimate in arrogance and egomania...many are guilty of just that!
With the invasion of the New World, the invaders seen only to stop the natives from expanding, then to stop them entirely. In the name of "God" - so I'd say religion has become a main factor in all wars. From the crusades of 1100's - to the New World Conquistadores murders. They've all believed to have justice from "God" to sanction these murders.
If you believe in the existence of God, then it would make some sense to become more informed about Him. Inevitably, we come to Scriptural evidence that God has the ability to restore life to human beings. If such is the case (which I certainly believe), then human wrongs (even one's which led to the death of living beings) can and will be corrected by Him.
This obviously doesn't give us the right to destroy human life (Thou Shalt Not Kill). The Bible says that Man has dominated Man to his injury.........which is clearly the case most of the time. According to the Bible, God has not yet come to claim TOTAL AUTHORITY of the Earth. In the meantime, our governments are in charge.
In the case of the American Indians, our government was atrocious (understatement of the universe). God didn't come down and intervene because at the present time mankind runs itself (clearly, mankind has made some awful decisions as God waits to Re-assume control over His world).
This is NOT going to be a permanent situation. The Bible predicts that God will make His presence known and take over his rightful domain (Earth). When this takes place isn't known and the fact that God exists isn't allowed to be known. My feeling is that THIS is how the faithful are tested. If we all knew for a fact that God would re-claim rightful authority over the Earth, we'd worry less about mankind's obviously huge mistakes and focus on how we think, act and treat one another.
There is evidence which supports the possibility that this Reclamation of authority may take place sooner than later. There is an increasing resentment towards God's people that appears to be growing by leaps and bounds. When the world turns to destroy God's people, that is when it is said "it will be as though they are touching my eyeball".
Prophecy is even now taking place. This "people who don't like God" phenomenon has become a reality and we see religion made fun of as though it is a fairy tale on national television. People have ABUSED other: nations, cultures and races in a manner that is horrific. They will turn against God's people because they honestly do not believe in Scriptural Prophecy and because Prophecy says they will. When they raise their hand to destroy God's people, God will take back what is rightfully His. When this happens - all injustice will come to an end.

How does a country ever make up for wiping out it's first inhabitants? Inhabitants who loved and revered the land and watched it greedily devoured by invaders?? What is the price America pays for what it did? How can we atone for what we did and why haven't we done more?
