do you believe the media does as much harm as good?
yes we learn what's happening but is it needed and are the stories too one sided or too political.
The media does a good job at disbursing news and information. However, they do not accomplish much except that. They should make a conscious effort to relay the good news as much as they are quick to relay the bad news. I am a firm believer that "Good begets good and Bad begets bad,"
I think the media does much more harm than it does good. While we do need to know what's happening, the media offers biased stories that are usually blown out of proportion. Despite that, we still need the media because it's the only steady source of information we have.
Of couse media does as much harm as it helps. There is a such thing as bad press, an it can ultimately slandor peoples name reputations. This is evident in the entertaining industry. There have been so many careers ended due to bad press. The papparazi is once source provider of bad press just look at how they exploit Lindsey Lohan, and Brittney Spears.
Not as much harm as good, more. I also hate prior to an election the medias twist on a party it does not agree with. The scare monger tactics they use in trying to fool the public.
I'm trying hard to think of an example where the Media has done any 'good' themselves ? Perhaps someone has an example please ?
They might report on someone/something 'good' but they always manage to somehow dilute the "real good" that could be reported by putting their mark on it, rather than just tell it like it is and just report the facts.
This is an age old problem.. information is power. The power to manipulate information is dangerous. Media can do as much harm as it can do good. It is a bit like everything else .. it is not the tools of the trade ( internet, TV, film, books) that are dangerous it is the people who wield it irresponsibly, who don't take a balanced view, who are blissfully unaware that the information they disperse will do harm ... the very media that reports on stock market crashes and banks collapsing can cause the stock to crash and livelihoods lost due to the instant spread of information.. can cause mass panic in case of a pandemic but can equally make people take precautions.. I think accountability should be all around..
I think they do more harm than good, but I think that is because as a society we have grown to love conflict and drama. So when they go to find a "news worthy" story it tends to be something that is bad or completely twisted to get the viewers attention. Now having said that they do occasionally do some good as well when they report on good things. It is good from time to time to hear good news. Its just so rare anymore.
Absolutely, when the media crosses the line from "Reporting" to "Manipulation". Which happens more often than not.

I've read a lot of opinions on 'current events' in the forum threads at hubpages. Sometimes I think that media who report on current events are just giving us general information that we SHOULD NOT comment on but should gather much more information about and think about very critically.Things such...
