Am I just a hack writer?
I selectively collect "corroborating evidence" in naive empiricism to support an argument with a series of eloquent confirmatory quotes - someone who said it a lot better than I ever could. -------Oh BTW the above was written by Nassim Nicholas Taleb from the book "The Black Swan:The impact of the highly improbable"
No sweetie your not just a hack writer because, you credited your source, Hack writers don't credit their sources, they take credit for work that isn't theirs.
That's plagiarism - I'm talking if I am a a mediocre and disdained writer .....
There are writers and there are writers, but they differ from the writers that write about writers or use the information of other writers. Did I lose you?
I speed read a couple of your hubs. Good grammar, from what I saw. Writing for a technical magazine or journal or newspaper is a bit different than writing a mystery novel. It's not really fair to compare the two.
Hack writing may not be the most original but the world needs people to research topics, assemble the facts and comment upon them and you seem to do a good job, so keep on keeping on doing what you seem to enjoy. We all have our own style and that's the beauty of it.
If people are looking for information upon a subject, they will come. But add a little salt and pepper here and there to spice things up... personal anecdotes, silly humour, personal opinions. The best cooked rice needs some spices.
Hi ptosis (interesting name - drooping eye... and so on?),

I am told that people write for different reasons. Here are the major reasons I figured out.1. They write because they enjoy it. In that case, if you are not writing for money, please write in your journal. Obviously, if you're writing for your personal enjoyment, then you don't need readers.2....

Do you write about what you really know about or do you just wing with abit of research? And...what is your specialty?

I am frustrated. We now have to write bios that show our expertise at something. I am not an expert at something because I write about it. I am a journalist and writer that has learnt to research a topic thoroughly and reproduce the facts in a way that is succinct to the reader.I read the following...

I've been online for almost 4 years, 2 1/2 of which have been spent writing for HP. There are a few thoughts I would like to share with my fellow writers that I feel might be helpful to them.First, we should never forget that behind all of the figures are real people. People who seek...

Are good writers always good readers?Every writer I have known has been a pretty avid reader. Do you think that being a reader is necessary to being a good writer?

Does living a hard or troubled life make one a better writer?Do people who have lived a rather easy life have less of an inclination to be writers?
