   Do you think that human progress is the result of purposeful design or is  a series of accidents?
   
   Human culture and technology remained basically unchanged for over 100,000 years until about 10,000 BCE. Then it took off in a series of technical and social revolutions. The question is: Why? What caused this quantum leap in social and technological development?

   As things become easier we then have, as a society, more time and a better economy to allow part of the population do other things outside of survival tasks, as more things become easier/more efficient, this ability grows.
   The invention of, say, the bow and arrow made hunting/warfare more efficient so it left more time for, invention, thinking, progress, this can also be said of the saddle, the plough...
   The improvements are slow at first, but each one brings the next one nearer, there is no conspiracy theory behind it of aliens or lost technologically advanced races, it is just luck, the odd accident, thought, and natural progression.

   I doubt that man evolved, just as Darwin described it. It can not possibly be a consequence of biological accidents. If it were so, we still would not be where we are. Today there is enough evidence to disprove Darwin's theory. Here we should particularly keep in mind - it is a theory.
   According to Darwin, and further research, the man has only existed for little more than a hundred thousand years. One hears it at school too.
   However, next we hear of discoveries which tell of large, technologically advanced civilizations, which existed long before that.
   Furthermore, we hear stories of suspected aliens, which make genetic experiments with humans.
   
   Whatever. I am not in a position to say whether this is all true. However, I can say that one may doubt the old view.
   
   After all that I heard earlier, saw and read, I understand better the stories of the Scriptures, which tell of the creation of man. With our current knowledge of genetics, it is absolutely inconceivable, other civilizations before us knew and took advantage of this as well. I also think it is conceivable and possible, the man was brought to earth and came originally from another planet in another solar system. Why not?
   
   Under no circumstances do I believe that man was created by accident.

   100,000 Years ago eh?
   How exactly have you came to this conclusion that, all the way back then we didn't have amazing technologies.
   
   Some Ancient civilizations such as the Hopis, had batteries made from copper in a jar or something of the sort.
   The Ancient Vedic society is believed to have many modern like "stuff."
   
   I mean, look on the wonders of the world, the Pyramids, Easter Island ect.. They're wonders, because people marvell in disbelief that people from so far back could have made such a structure.
   
   So those years doesn't necessarily have had to be a time filled with primitive people.
   
   If you study the concept of Ages, from the Vedic and Mayan culture, you might could draw the conclusion, that 5,000 years ago, the worlds inhabitants weren't so primitive after all.
   
   Maybe?
   Who knows.

   10,000 years ago is a significant time in world history. Up to that point humans had survived in a world that had changed little in the grips of the last glacial period. !0,000 years ago the ice had retreated opening vast areas in the north for life to expand, the plains of Africa were drying up so humanity began to spread, interaction with new environments, new animals to hunt requiring new methods. The need to communicate with a larger growing population and more activity enabled brain growth and adaptability, it is also suggested that dietary change played a significant part fish became more available. We were not the only animals that used rudimentary tools but we were in the right places at the right time to expand our knowledge and abilities.

   There is no design without a designer. Human progress was part of the original design. That's why the mind was embedded in the human design. I believe human progress is the product of a purposeful design, not a series of accidents.

   RVDaniels, if you ever get the chance, check out a show on the History Channel called "Ancient Aliens". There are philosophers and scientists that theorized that aliens came to this planet either to start life here and eventually succeeded (thus we are the ancestors of an alien race) or they came here to observe and lend assistance to the progression of society.
   There are also many theories regarding technological singularity--the idea that technology is increasing at such a rapid rate that the future is unpredictable. One could say that ancient civilizations discovered a breakthrough in technology thus thrusting ALL civilization forward in technological advancements. So, when we look back now, we are baffled by how we arrived at this point, when really it was just technological singularity at work.
   Getting back to the question though, I believe that human progression is a byproduct of human intelligence. Because we are intelligent beings, we thrive for knowledge (well, most of us are intelligent lol). This thirst for knowing how things work is what leads to many great inventions, which in turn launch us forward on the path of development. It's definitely not an accident that we arrived to this point in life. It was the result of much hard work and sometimes dumb luck.

   Human progress is a result of design, but not a design of our own making, it is a design of a higher power.  Can we say we control the waves of the sea or the winds that blow?  We only have the choice of choosing through free will, to go left or right, good or bad, light or darkness.
