At what age should a child be baptised?

In the Catholic tradition, baptism of babies is arranged as soon as possible from birth. However, there has been an ongoing discussion that baptism should be put on hold until the child is old enough to make his/her own choice about religion.

When it has reached the age of majority, in the UK, 18.  Providing it hasn't been indoctrinated by parents and state, it is then old enough to make the decision.

Start teaching your child who introduced Baptism (Jesus Christ) and then why the adults got Baptised . Dont pay attention to anyone else but the Baptism that happened in the Bible (KJV)

I believe it should be at an age when the child can fully understand the stand they are taking and why they are taking it.

John the Baptist who Jesus called the most holy  of humans, had a ministry of baptizing primarily adults including Jesus Himself who was not baptized until He was approximately 30 years of age.

    Matthew 3:13-15

13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. 14 And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?”
15 But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him.

ANY discussion of baptism must include a mention of the much more important  and separate baptism, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, which only comes from God in response to fervent prayer.

    John 3:3-7

3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Holy Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’

No child should ever be baptized before they have real understanding.
No one is to be baptized until they have knowingly and of their own accord been "born again according to scripture" .   Churches of men do as they wish but true Christians follow scripture.
Anyone baptized without being able to understand and desire and accepting the scriptural requirements just gets wet.    Those that follow scripture have their heart circumsized by the Lord so that they can receive the things of the Lord.   They arise from the water a new creation with the ability to follow Him.
    Col.2:11
