   What has America and Obama got to do with the problems in...
   
   Egypt ? Surely their interference can only make things worse ?

   Could it be that America and Obama along other countries and their leaders simply care about Egypt and the rest of the world? Offering assistance or advise should be welcomed, whether the offers are accepted or not. I would not class any actions up to present as interference.

   dear, you are absolute right. egypt is sovereign country, let it solve her problem by their own. World power shold not interfere in et is totally internal matter of her.
   Taking any side either dictator or revolutionary will appease one of them and may it led to the civil war.
   World power should follow the policy of wait & watch.

   We can't keep our nose out of other peoples business.  The reason is that we fear any instability in the middle east because we get so much of our oil from that area.

   If Egypt comes under a regime that is hostile to America, then it has repurcussions on USA's oil supply, shipping through the strait of Harmuz.... and safety of Isreal.  Therefore, these things all added together affect EVERY nation not just the USA.

   Certainly there is the need for those leaders in the world who are allied to listen to and support one another in difficult times. In my opinion, America has no business telling Mubarek or anyone else in Egypt what to do and when unless it is simply offered as friendly advice which has been solicited. Yes, we provide aid to the country but do we in turn expect to have a say in their government. If we don't like the government of that country, then stop the aid. When Obama stands before the American people and stipulates that "we hear you" to the Egyptian protesters, he is simply pouring gasoline on a fire that is already burning.  Yes, the protesters are calling for democracy but they also may be getting used to achieve a far more sinister plot within the country under the guise of moving toward a democratic society. Our best position is one of neutrality and to allow the Egyptian people to work out their own "internal issues." WB

   Nothing other than - Egypt being "Strategic" to USA and Israeli policies in the mid-east.  Also the fact that the dog president of Egypt is a puppet of the west, and he barks when they tell him to, without him who will support their biased foreign policies.

   Why did USA and UK get involved in Iraq?  There was something in it for them. The biggest disgrace is that we are not helping in Zimbabwe. It they find oil there we may decide they are worthy of help.

   For better or worse, America has its hands all over the place.  It isn't a relationship that can simply be ignored.
   
   I don't think American actions have to make things worse.  I thought the response to the trouble in South Korea was pretty effective.
   
   Also, aside from the governmental relationship, there is a very significant military relationship.  The Egyptian military's budget contains a pretty sizable chunk of money from America.  So, not only does their military have an interest in paying attention to American concerns, America has an interest in not seeing F-16s and M1 tanks being used against civilians.  it matters, because ultimately, I think it is the Egyptian military that will decide what happens over there.
   
   As for me, I think the world is a small place and that they are my neighbors, and my hope for the Egyptian people is that their tomorrow is a brighter day.

    I found out that Egypt is America's biggest arab ally, which then means we (America) has some kind of interest as far as calming the turmoil, and yes I agree with GNelson- we keep our nose in everyone's business because of oil. It's all about what benefits the U.S.

    There are a good deal of reasons as to why the US is pretty concerned about the way Egypt turns out at the end of all this, such as:
    - strained foreign relations in the Arab world
    - Egypt is a close ally and big mediator of Israel-Arab peace
    - the future of the Egyptian government and how that will impact the Middle East and relations with the US
    - Economic effects on the world and US

    Egypt cannot afford to be allowed to go the way of Iran. America therefore cannot support an oppressive or undemocratic government. The type of freedom America has at home should also be extended to Egyptians on their own soil.

    George Bush II said that it was time for America to bring the World democracy, didn't he?
    That's why the US went to Irak no?
    
    Besides that, the US has been given Egypt 1.5 Billions US dollars per year for the last 30 years in order to maintain  a status quo on the Israel question. They need Egypt to stabilize the region.
    
    I would say that the US is getting involved for the Israeli's sake really as they are terrified of what an anti-Israel government would mean for them and for Gaza.

    The world has gotten smaller. Egypt is geographically and strategically important. 1) We are not isolationist and what happens in the world economically and politcally will eventually affect us. 2) we are proponents of democracy and will always advocate its escalation. It is in our interest to do so. 3) Control of the suez canal is obviously, important to the world we live in. For the U.S. it is especially critical, militarily, so our ships can get to the middle east, if necessary, quickly. Stability, in the middle east is critical to our way of life and if that bothers us, try buying something here if it colapses.
