    Minor Paw Injury

Do hubbers a favourite remedy for minor cuts on the pads of a dog's paw? I have a Border Collie who has had a few injuries on one of his front pads - due to running & training - would a shoe/boot be best when he is training or is there anything else you could recommend?

the boots would help but you can also get paw creams to help after hes done training, also useing a vit. E inriched lotion with out color or sent to it would help.

    Hi GFDDS,

Many thanks for your response, will certainly try the creams and lotion and hadn't thought of vit E.

It's safe to clean minor paw injuries with hydrogen peroxide and apply a triple antibiotic ointment like Neosporin.  Won't hurt if he licks it off as long as he's not doing it too often.  Another trick would be to put a sock on that foot after applying the ointment so it can do it's job, just don't keep the sock on for long periods of time.  Good luck!

My BC cut his pads on carpet tacks...some nasty slices. We did as suggested below...peroxide and triple antibiotic. At night after doing that I put a sock on and used duct tape to secure it (just over the sock, not touching his fur). It was the only way he would leave it on a couple of hours...long enough to let the ointment do its job for awhile. I did that for about 4-5 days and the pads eventually healed.
