Is it important to love yourself above any other? I don't mean in a selfish way but surely before...
you can share love, or teach it to another you must first achieve this..?
I think you should love yourself, I am still struggling with accepting myself for who I am. In my opinion, to love yourself means being comfortable in your own body, with your beliefs and life. I can honestly say that I didn't love myself when I was growing up and had terrible problems with my self-esteem and self-confidence. I believe it really matters how your parents programmed you when you were a child.
I believe we should love God above everyone because God loved us first. God is Love and only God can truly teach us how to love.
After that we can apply that to others and ourselves. Everyone needs love, even the ones that say they don't, deep down they do.
I believe it should be GOD first.
My opinion (for me) without that formula, we can tend to focus too much on ourselves and less on others and really much less on God who created us.
I believe one should love themself first but not in a narsistic manner but rather in a kind gentle way and always remain humble and thankful. I believe if you love yourself first you can be gentle and more available to others. If you dont like yourself you can be fustrated and mean towards others. Its a hard concept to understand and hard to adapt to but love begins inside of each person first . Most will seek love from another person to fill that gap but that will eventuatly fail. Love yourself first then share that love with others. This is my personal opinion , i might be wrong.
Of course you gotta love yourself, If you don't how can you ever claim to or truly come to love someone else!
Btw you CaN'T teach anybody to Love..... they must desire what Love has to offer on their own
It is a hard balance. We need to accept ourselves, accept who we are, but still strive to improve because no one is perfect. I think it is important to first know who you are, know what you think feel, how you respond to people in need, your family.
Then accept yourself, say this is who I am, I am not perfect, but I am trying to improve. Look in the mirror and be happy with what you see---and my friend, I know this is not easy and not something that can be done on demand. It is an aging process where we learn that we like who we are.
So the answer is that it is important to LEARN to love yourself and that is an ongoing process. I don't believe you have to have the process complete to share love or teach others. It is something I have learned over 40 years of marriage--that I am okay. That is not something I believed when I married at 19.
Yes. If I do not love myself then how can I spread my love for others?
I find that it is important to understand and love yourself before you know how to love others.
well love is selfish at times when you love someone you only want them when you love yourself you only wants whats good for you. so you have to find a healthy balance between the two
You must first be loved and then you can love. God loved us first and then wanted our love in return. God is the source of love, our first love.
Loving yourself isn't selfish as long as you love your neighbor (everyone else) as you do yourself.
Yes.
Loving Self is a journey... when you reach 'it' the lens changes.. of course you share it through interactions and relationships and giving and receiving.. teach it? only through example.
It's absolutely important to love yourself before others. Without love for yourself, what are you offering other people? You have to have a foundation.

I was recently studying Mark 12:28-31 which calls us to Love God with our whole being, AND ALSO to love our fellow man "as ourself". How can someone who does NOT love themselves (low self esteem) treat others well? SIMILAR ISSUE: Can we be both humble and also have enough love for...

How should we love and care for others? Should we love them more than we love ourself or should we mind our business first?!

Why are so many people selfish and mean, even to family members?Maybe I shouldn't be surprised any more, but why are so many family members selfish and hurtful to other family members? Life is precious, and flying by, and even if someone isn't your favorite person, why can't more just be kind...
