What grade would you give the education system in America?
And how important is it for education to be a priority?
Probably about a B- or a C+ overall. We allow member of our society to earn high school dimplomas who can't even fully read and write and down frown more upon the high school and college dropout rates. If more attention was applied as it is required, we would have a much better future. The salaries of teachers reinforces my ideas, they don't get paid near what they're worth. Quit paying athletes so much and start paying the more productive members of society extra.
Watch the movie "Waiting for Superman" it will completely open your eyes to things that you did not know. I have to say that public system has completely failed our students as a whole. We used to lead the world in math and science and we drag behind other countries. It is a shame the in the United States of America people have to look towards private education in order to get their children the education that we were told that we have right to have. It takes more money to fund the jails in this country than it does to send your children to a private school from K-4 on up to 12th. I'm lucky that I was able to attend a public in the suburbs of my city. There was money flowing and parents and teachers that gave a damn. I could go on and on about this subject, but like I said watch that movie and you will see what I mean.
Probably a "C-" overall. In our elementary and secondary education, we have become far too obsessed with teaching social aspects and political correctness. These subjects crowd the time on the basics like Reading, Writing, and Math. This shows up in our college output as we fall further and further behind in science, math, and engineering in the world. One day, we will be known as the nation of bleeding hearts because we can sympathize with every situation in the world and know just what to say and when to say it without hurting any feelings...but, we won't be able to make change for a dollar. definitely a C+ the teachers today are not as good as years ago. they are more self centered and most only care about the benefits of being a teacher. very sad. Not everyone, because their are some amazing teachers just no where near as many as years past.
I give it an F -, and that is me being kind to America.
I feel the schools deserve and F they are failing our children and doing this society as a whole a disservice there are no longer anymore upstanding facilities or institutions who have not delved in some form of corruption or misleading their constituents. It's sad to say the generation that is coming up now will experience chaos at it's highest levels with the government reckless spending and so many cuts education will be a thing of the past. we need to dig deep in our heart and find some solid sotutions that are going to work if things haven't worked out all these years then get rid of the lawmakers who are benefitting from thier decisions and get new ones that are for the people and are capable of solving things in an expedient and exponential time frame with positive results that is not to hard to do. Someone needs to speak up and get it done. Make our lives be no mistake Amen.
Pretty low. There is a system where they rate each countries education system. I believe America is in the 30's.
Roughly a D- for it's almost abysmally bad failures.
The fixes are simple, and straightforward, but they are offensive to academia, thus, nothing is done.
I would say a "C", for freedom of speech in schools. But other than that taking God out of the pledge of allegance was a dumb move. Korean children study more than America children in their education.

What would you do to fix the educational system in America? This assumes, of course, that the system needs fixing. What would you change about it? What would you terminate? Perhaps we need to look first at what is wrong before answering the question.

What steps do you think we should take to improve our education system?I'd like to see more courses in our high schools that embrace the arts and the humanities, and performance-based assessments as opposed to "teaching to the test."

With the entertainment and sport industries making multimillions of dollars each year and the education industry losing funding and shutting down programs and laying off teachers, should the education of our children be privatized? City budgets are no longer able to provide adequate funding for...

It perplexes me that despite the advent of the Internet and the quickness with which information can travel nowadays, so many young people are still so woefully ignorant of the issues that affect our society. Mainly, the ignorance of politics and the workings of our government is what I'm concerned...
