What most confuses you about SEO?
In the whole process what is it that you least understand or would ask for more assistance on?
There is so much talk about keywords, but I have also heard somewhere that they are losing some of their importance, compared to long-tail search terms. I would like to understand which of these is most important for improving your SEO.
Also, I would like to understand why you can have a decent ranking on searches, but get very little traffic for a hub.
Thank you!
I have no idea what SEO is so I don't understand it at all! Lol
What confuses me the most is everything!
I have a book at the moment that I'm reading - "SEO for Dummies" and it is helping a bit. But my only question would be: -
"By the time you have gone through your writing watching your keyword, keyword count, watching bullet points, lists, italics, bold, headings, lay-out and god knows what else; is there actually any decent writing left?
Who really decides and controls your positions? In addition, why don't they have SEO for videos?
I guess since I don't even know what SEO stands for I would have to start there.
On page optimization is what I'd like to know a whole lot more about. At one point I was reading and employing the idea that the title of an article should be in the first sentence. .. .but I don't do that anymore.
Keyword density. . . .is astounding. The thought of me actually taking the time to try to plot out exactly where and how often I need to use an article's main keywords. . . .just isn't going to happen.
I'm told that as Google continues to evolve, it's search results will most resemble what are the pages that people responded most favorably to, and not so much to do with backlinks, etc. I hope that that is true.
Whoa, Seeker7....
Are you really saying you are learning from your SEO for Dummies book is that we are, in fact, supposed to be "watching keyword, keyword count, watching bullet points, lists, italics, bold, headings, lay-out"? Or are you just joking?
I'm really asking. Cause if you're speaking the truth, then I'm going back to writing that novel and facing rejection slips. Sounds less agonizing!
the constant talk about key words, "bidding" on those key words (I don't even get what it means really), buying key words, using keywords,
I should take a class on SEO.
I know I will be writing a hub about SEO, probably a few. To answer some of the comments now though:
@Dave Mathews, asianlight: SEO is a way of optimizing your page, site, etc for better ranking with your target audience.
@prairieprincess: long-tail is simply the shape of the graph in response to hits. For example: Shoes is a keyword and Nike soccer shoes would long-tail. Long-tail is finding the niche and being more focused instead of so general.
@seeker7: using keywords is easy to fit in and keep the flow, density - if the article sounds good and doesn't sound too worked don't worry about it. Bold, italic, headings - use them to draw attention to keep words when appropriate. Lists there are times for them - take advantage of correct use when needed. And layout isn't a big deal, if you focus on quality most of these rules are covered anyways. Check out the flagship hubs rules. Good rules to go by.
@ClickrNet: the search systems decide you ranking. Search engines are just pretty much a gui. There is ranking for everything - videos included - it all revolves around the text (content) and backlinks etc. - btw I am jealous of the followers you have in such a short time.
@Wesman: it is possible, but would be very hard for clean data in some instances. they would have to look at time spent viewing etc. which can be thrown way off. If they change - people will figure out what to do.
@Fran: you can always use rejection slips as wallpaper.... forgot who did that irl.
@stuff4you: about the only thing you need to know about value of keywords is the competition. And that is only if you are looking at possible price your ads will pay you. Bidding, buying etc is if you are advertising. And if you want to learn about SEO, there is a lot of free information out there.
I hope that helped for now. I know I still experiment to learn more - one reason I am on hubpages.
i don't even know what it is or what it does so i guess the initials SEO are the most confusing.

Can anyone help me figure out how to best optimize my hubs? I have several that have scores of 90 and above but they hardly get any views...I'm not sure how I could improve that. Even ones that have been changed by Hubpages' editors still don't get much traffic. Is it just the titles that I should...

But I am wondering why there seems to be competition in the real google world and no competition showing for it in the external keyword tool world?

Hello Everyone, I’m primarily a writer, not a computer buff or web-site designer and in my other attempts at on-line writing I haven’t been trying to earn money, so I haven’t bothered about gaining traffic. I’m patient, I’ve read it takes a while to build up earnings, but from what...
