What dietary changes have you made and stuck to over a period of time?
Hi Tracy,
Great question!
Gosh....I started to make lots of changes in the early 80's when I got invloved in lifting weights to build muscle but also learn more about nutrition to do so.
I was fortunate to attend seminars by Arnold, Lee Haney, Dorian Yates, Frank Zane, Lee Labrada, Bob Paris, Robby Robinson, Bertil Fox etc etc the list goes on. All these were the best in the world during that time period.
People do not always admire the bodybuilders physique yet these guys know their stuff about nutrition whether it be gaining muscle or burning fat for a contest.
Some quick tips;
- Eat protein with every meal (keeps you fuller for longer)
- Eat every 2 1/2 to 3 hours to boost your metabolism
- Carbs like brown bread, brown rice etc are good for you in moderation, I eat them everyday.
- You must exercise when losing weight to hold onto muscle mass otherwise you'll lose muscle mass. Loss of muscle mass = slower metabolism = faster weight gain when you've lost your weight.
- Have a cheat day once a week to keep you sane & on track! This is actually good for your metabolic rate.
- It's not fat that makes you fat it's the sugar in foods, so get really good at reading labels & have an understanding of protein, fats and carbs.
Hope these tips help anyone who's currently on a weight loss programme.
Cheers
Barry
I've stopped eating a lot of fast food and cook most of my meals now.
Good question! :-)
I think the best decision I ever made was getting rid of all the soda - looking back I can't believe I used to drink that toxic waste all day long!
I have changed from eating red meat to more vegetables and it has been more than six months. I hope to continue this change as it makes me feel lively.
I am five years gluten free and two years lactose free. Switching my diet changed my life and there is no going back. Gluten was causing me many GI issues as well as a weakened immune system. I went through over a year of testing for serious illnesses including a variety of cancers and all I needed to do was switch up my way of eating. Without gluten, I am energetic and healthy and in no way deprived.
Dietary changes - Do not eat pizza.
Last for 3 hours ... broke when my friends were enjoying pizza with chilled coke ...
Lolzzz
I began very slowly adjusting my diet last year when my weight raged out of control. I hit near 300lbs and was developing some health problems. I sat down to investigate my diet and the first thing I took stock of was a large amount of soft drinks, up to 6 20oz. mtn dew per day, bringing in 1800 calories of nothing. I eliminated soft drinks first, switching to strictly water and occasionally green tea. I then broke up my meals from no breakfast, gorging at lunch and supper, into 5 small meals with a large portion of fruits and vegetables.
Giving up the caffeine was the hardest, but most rewarding thing I did. I still treat myself to snacks, but after I got back down to 215(I am 6'4") and had to buy new pants several sizes smaller, it was much easier to cope with.
Adding way more water to diet has been great, if im going to be away from the house I carry bottles with me.
Changed my current diet that wasn't fitting for something a little better. It was one of the most efficient solution to my weight problem.
Now I'm on the way to prepare some of my new natural sugars smoothes. They help me find the right balance I need and grow taller naturally.
This is an interesting question, because if most people realized that the only dietary change they need to make is to count calories, they would be able to eat whatever they want day in day out.

What's the best way to boost your metabolism?I'm not fat but I can't honestly say I'm totally fit. I want to get rid of excess weight particularly on my lower abdomen but I think my daily exercise routine is not getting the job done. My friend told me the other day that I should focus on improving...

Why am I not seeing weight loss when I run?I've been doing cardio exercises like running for 30-60 minutes around 5 pm for 5 days a week for about 3 weeks now. I've also been trying to eat less, and except for the occasional Subway sandwich I think I do pretty well. Yet I see very little progress...

Do YOU think that compound exercises make you bulky?I recently heard a personal fitness trainer make the comment- "compound exercises make you bulky". Before I write a hub on this topic, I wanted to see what people thought about this perspective on compound exercises. Please comment below.

Despite your obsession with thinness, somehow your body has not connected to your mind and each Monday as you creep on the scale you become more desperate. Do you look at your body in the mirror and wonder how fat seems to be growing in places its never been? If this sounds familiar, don't despair!...

Do you think 20 minutes/day workout is enough to stay fit and healty? Many health professionals recommend a schedule as easy as 20 minutes workout a day. Do you think you can make this a daily routine and what would you recommend to do in this short period of time. Or do you think 20 minutes is much...
