What is a good field of work to get into?
I have many friends that recently graduated from college having a terrible time finding a job. They have 100,000 debt from school loans and only making minium wage now. Is there a good field to get into now?
That sounds like a huge amount of debt, which country are you in?
I would suggest you start looking into IT, and get yourself trained up on some really god technologies, like VOIP, Virtualisation, Architecture or Project management. These skills should help you find a well paid job.
I get asked this question a lot actually. Unfortunately, there is not a one size fits all answer for this question. You should look at yourself and find out what you are passionate about. Once you have done that, you should look at who sells, markets, manufactures, distributes or otherwise handles what products are involved in your passion. Do your research to figure out which job surrounds that passion and study for that. This way you will be happy wherever you are.
I agree with Zubair, that is a lot of debt. I'm guessing that is in the US as tuition costs seem to be going through the roof. IT could be a good field, but I have to ask something. School should be an INVESTMENT, so if you are going to rack up $100K worth of debt you should have a plan to pay it off. (ie Med school, law school, etc.), some way that you can make enough money to pay back that $100K. If these are people who have that much debt just from an undergraduate degree, wow, that's a ton of debt! Hope they find something!
I would also say, doing something on the side would be a very good option. Start your own business, whether online or not. There is always room for entrepreneurs!
Court Reporting and Medical Transcription seem to be jobs that are in demand and pay well. You can work as a contractor as a medical transcriptionist and have multiple customers. WB
There are always jobs for good chefs , hairdressers electricians etc, work out what you enjoy doing or are good at to go into.
I enjoy making money on kooday etc as an extra .
Well, the job market isn't exactly booming right now. At least the private job market isn't. $100,000 in student loans sounds like a lot of money, but what degrees are you talking about? Is it Law, MBA, Medicine, or IT? Maybe Hotel Management? Possibly English Literature? Do your friends have any marketable talents or experience? How old are they? What are their ambitions?
A good field of work, in my opinion, is one in which you have an interest; not one in which you think you can make money. The money will come if you like what you do and work hard at it. To start out with your sole interest to be monetary wealth is to guarantee your own failure.
The inventory counting companies is a good field. Ever go to a supermarket or dollar store and see a group of people with hand held machines counting items? They are inventory counters and with their machine their job is to tally up every item is the stores price. Currently they are about 10 American and Canadian based companies. They will hire you in a week or less. No drug or background checks are required. Only requirement is that your a licensed driver.

Be a politician or a banker, you know what folks say....the best way to rob a bank is to own one!
human services work is probably the most fulfilling, but the least financially rewarding. the most happy people i know are those who chose to work with people less fortunate than themselves. long term, high salaries do not equal happiness or job satisfaction. if i were advising a young person, i would recommend human services work. the debt will be taken care of over time.
The best thing you can do is not worry about what the best field is today because what's hot today can be cold tomorrow. Fads come and go. Find something that interests you, that has a demand, that you're good at and that you can earn a living from.

I have just been told that my main source of income will end next month so I need to find a new one and fast. I think I am going to have to figure out how to make regular money here as well which I still haven't been successful at.
