   How do I start to build a website, where do I start?
   
   HELP! I am just about to try and build my self a website to advertise some holiday cottages I rent out but I don't know where to start and how do I get good page rankings on google?

   First step in getting a domain (your own web address) and hosting.
   I think most people use "godaddy.com" to register a domain, and hostgator for hosting services.
   
   You can then find step by step process for installing wordpress. Wordpress makes it easy to manage your website, because you don't have to know any computer languages.

   If I was to give the best advice for beginners I would say that if you are a young person between 14-30 you should start practicing with Tumblr and they have a way for you to get it linked to a domain somehow and you will find people your own age to mix with. If you are between 40-90 years old then Wordpress might be a good place for you.

   To start a site you have to know alittle about it first. You should have a plan on where to go with it because purchasing a domain name is easy but you want to have everything ready so you get the most bang for your buck. You don't want to waste a month you paid for by setting the site up. Make sure you are ready to create one.

   I believe the best place to start is on Hubpages. There is a lot to learn and with Hubpages the infrastructure is all done for you.
   
   Then you can focus on the other aspects that you need to know to make your "website" or blog successful.  After you are successful on Hubpages you can consider asking your question on how do you start to build a website.
   
   Just my opinion.

   In my opinion, building a website with WordPress is easy to do and install. It is open source software based on Php and MySql. With WordPress you can do it yourself without hiring web developer. My friend recommended an online tutorial which is very informative. Give http://www.simplewebsitetutorials.com a look, where they teach us about how to create a website in a very simple way.

   Webs - http://www.webs.com - is a great place to start. It has a simple to use builder tool that allows you to easily create a professional looking website. You can add images, text, slideshows, videos, e-mail submission forms, social media modules, and a lot more. The best part is, you can do all of this for FREE! There are also premium features that you can pay for to further the quality of your site.
   
   I think in your case, this would be the perfect solution. You can create some relatively simple pages that list your cottages and the prices. The slideshow and table tools would be great for this!
   
   As far as getting it ranked on google, there are a number of ways of going about this. Webs offers some built in tools for the purpose of SEO and and reviewing your analytics, but also goes a step further by providing you free resources to consult. The small business center - http://www.webs.com/small-business/ - has some great advice as well as the blog - http://www.webs.com/blog/ (hint: seo and content marketing strategies are key).
   
   Full disclosure, I currently work for Webs. I do, however, truly think it is the perfect place to start for anyone who doesn't have website building experience. The process is greatly simplified and flexible enough to suit most peoples need. I'm more than happy to answer any questions I can regarding the builder.
