   Did the rape scene, in the remake of The Last House On The Left, bother you / was it over the top?
   
   I go back and forth on this. I realize that it is a movie and not real, but the detail and realism in that scene made me feel so uncomfortable while watching it that I would never do it again. At the same time, that is probably exactly the reaction the directors were aiming for. Do you think it was too much?

   Honestly I think detail in a rape scene in any movie is too much...and yes, it was too much in this movie too. Killing scenes in movies are one thing, as they've been done over and over and we seem to have developed a desensitization to it over the years, but rape is a whole other story, as we don't see it too much on TV and it tends to be very violating and brutal...most especially to women viewers. I wasn't a fan of this movie, specifically for that reason. Another movie I hated because of the disgusting rape scenes was "The Hills Have Eyes"...the unedited version.

   I completely agree. As a woman I was not only offended but terrified of this scene. I had to take a moment and 'breath' - and what's worse is that the scene just kept going!!! I worry for those poor women who have been victims of rape, without warning this movie could be horribly traumatic to them.

   When the first version of Last house on the left was  released it was incredibly shocking.  I watched it for the first time a year ago and found it pretty tame.  As for the new version I have not seen it but I can tell you rape scenes often disturb me.  I can watch murder and blood and gore  with no problem but something about rape just disturbs my soul.

   Oddly enough ruffridyer, after doing some IMDB researching and looking at user reviews of the new movie, it seems that most people who saw the Wes Craven original feel like it was worse than the newer version. At least that scene, anyway.
   
   To clear up for those who haven't seen it. There is no or very little nudity in the scene, this isn't the issue. The sounds, the atmosphere, and the sheer duration of it (a good 5 minutes of blood curdling screams) are impossible to ignore and just look the other way.

   I'm a Troma movie viewer so sexual content nor mass amounts of gore don't sicken me. But rape is just not on, especially if it's a shoddy remake of a once-good film. I haven't seen the original so I can't compare, but I'm guessing the actress who was being raped in the original feels dignified compared to this trash.
   
   That was over the top, I apologize. But rape in films is just not on - exploitation flicks, I can understand. But not in worldwide cinema films and popular in Blockbusters like these.
