Absolutely not.   IMNSHO, you shouldn't follow anyone who you are not interested in reading.

    For me NO.
It's their decision to follow you, then it should be your decision too if you want to follow them or not.

I would also say no. Why should you be obligated to follow someone you aren't particularly drawn to? On the whole my opinion has pretty much already been stated. If the situation you suggested were the case, many popular Hubbers would be inundated with dreary updates in their feeds. It would be a disservice to those people, I think.

No, it's just like Twitter. The celebrity or news source you follow won't follow you. So in the same way her on HubPages, don't expect someone to follow you just because you are following them. Of course I will check out their information and see if I like reading what they wrote, but for the most part I follow who I like to read and not who follows me out of obligation.

It's not really a matter of people's personal preference (automatically following anyone who follows us).  It's a matter of how HubPages wants the following process to work; and that's that people aren't supposed to just follow anyone who follows them.  The idea is to follow people who write what we think is the kind of stuff we'll be interested in reading.

I would like to thank everyone who has answered my question. I joined HubPages six weeks ago, but the six Hubs I have written have all been published within the past week.

I didn't know what the "expected" protocol was when someone chose to follow me; that's why I asked the question.  My feeling is that when someone decides to follow me, I should look at their profile and also see if what they write appeals to me. That way, I can make an intelligent decision about whether or not to follow that person. I don't want to be obligated to follow someone simply because they chose to follow me.

The practice of "if you follow me, I'll follow you" doesn't seem the correct way to go.
