   Silence...drives them crazy...besides they are living a lie and not worth knowing as you will never get an honest answer..so just leave them where you found them and remember Pride comes before a big fall!!!

   I agree with Mike...just ignore them. The more you listen to them, the more annoyed you get. The more you ignore them, the more annoyed they get.

   Witty, dry humor seems to work best for me. Most of the time they are so stuck on themselves they don't catch what I'm saying...but the people around me do and we have lots of smiles and looks between each other. It can be rather amusing.

   I agree with xethonxq. Often they're so self-absorbed they don't even know if you are making fun of them and if you call them out on it either they'll continue pretending but everyone'll see through it or they will shut up and be less likely to bother you again. But most of the time it's best to ignore them; usually pretentious people hate to be ignored since they thrive off of attention from others. Btw, I like your profile picture.

   See it all depends i think what they are being Pretentious about. I read an answer to this question that said " and you are ?" well what if the guy says i am so and so and that just happens to be a really really important person. It do not give the right to be Pretentious but the "and you are" answer is simply wrong.
   
   if the person is Pretentious but knows what the hell he or she is talking about listen. you might not agree but thats ok. By listening you will find arguments to trap him or her. the more people talk the more they give you ammunitions.
   
   Just wait for him or her to make a mistake in his logic and jump in for the kill. He or she will never suspect that such a polite person as you will eventually put them back in their humble spot.

    I would suggest staying away from them completely. They are a waste of your time. Life is too short to waste being around pretentious people.
