WTI: What are some good home improvement projects?

Don’t know what to write about this week? Why not make a Hub about a home improvement project! Nearly everyone has the odd project in the works, which can be great material (using notes and photos you’ve taken) for stellar guides.  To join in on this week’s topic, answer this question with a Hub, and be sure to stop by our forum thread for some search-friendly titles to use and community support: http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/91162

As a further note, I have had problems all night editing this so I hope there isn't too many issues reading it.
